WELCOME TO CYAA
Whether your child is new to organized sports or your family is new to the Cambria and San Simeon community, we're here to help. Below are answers to some of the questions we hear most often.

NEW TO CYAA?
I'm new to the area. Can my child participate in CYAA?
Yes! CYAA serves children and families in Cambria, San Simeon, and surrounding communities. Eligibility can vary by sport and league, so please check the information for the specific program.

My child has never played organized sports. Can they participate?
Absolutely! Many CYAA programs are recreational and welcome beginners. Our goal is to give children an opportunity to learn, develop skills, make friends, and enjoy being part of a team.

How do I know which sport or age division is right for my child?
Each sport has its own age divisions and eligibility requirements. Visit the individual sport page for current information, or contact CYAA if you're unsure where your child belongs.

What should my child bring to their first practice?
This varies by sport, but children should generally arrive with appropriate athletic clothing, athletic shoes or cleats, water, and any required protective equipment. Your coach will provide information about any additional equipment.

How will I find out when and where practices are?
Practice schedules are provided by the coach or team parent after teams are formed. Schedules may change based on field availability, weather, and other circumstances.

How will I receive updates about my child's team?
Team communication is generally handled through the coach or team communication system. CYAA may also post general program updates on the website and social media.

What if I have questions after I register?
We're happy to help. You can contact CYAA with questions about registration, schedules, scholarships, volunteering, or any of our programs.

REGISTRATION
How do I register my child?
Registration information for each sport and season is available on the CYAA website when registration opens. Banners are put up at the local schools and at The Cambria Business Center. If you have a child enrolled in the local school district, announcements are made through Parent Square. We also post on social media . Forms can be picked up at the Cambria Grammar School,  Santa Lucia Middle School and The Cambria Business Center. If you are not registering via our website, all forms are to be dropped off at The Cambria Business Center. Cash or Check are accepted forms of payment there.

How much does it cost?
Registration fees vary by sport and season. Current fees are listed on the appropriate registration page.

Are scholarships available?
Yes. CYAA offers financial assistance because we don't want registration costs to prevent a
child from participating.

Can I register after the deadline?
Late registration may be available if space remains. Additional fees may apply, and placement is not guaranteed.

SPORTS & TEAMS
Does my child need previous experience?
No. CYAA programs welcome children with a range of experience levels.

Can I request that my child play with a friend?
Yes. We understand that coordinating transportation, work schedules, and other family responsibilities can be challenging. When possible, CYAA will try to accommodate requests for children to be placed on the same team as a friend or another family they can coordinate transportation with.

While we cannot guarantee every request, we will make every effort to consider transportation needs and other circumstances when forming teams, while also taking into account age divisions, team sizes, coaching availability, and league requirements.

Where are games and practices held?
Locations vary by sport. CYAA uses Coast Unified School District athletic facilities. Will my child play games against teams from other communities? Depending on the sport and age division, teams may play locally or travel to neighboring Central Coast communities.

COACHES & VOLUNTEERS
Are CYAA coaches volunteers?
Yes. CYAA depends on dedicated community volunteers to make our programs possible.

Can I volunteer if my child is participating?
Absolutely! We welcome parents and community members who want to help.

What kinds of volunteers are needed?
Volunteers are needed for coaching, team support, tournaments, concessions, fundraising,
events, equipment, and administrative tasks.

Do coaches have to complete background checks?
Yes, all CYAA coaches must complete a Live Scan background check. CYAA offers
reimbursement.

Safety & Sportsmanship
What are CYAA's expectations for parents and spectators?
We ask everyone involved with CYAA to demonstrate good sportsmanship, respect coaches and officials, encourage players positively, and help create a welcoming environment.

What should I do if I have a concern?
We encourage families to address concerns respectfully and promptly. Depending on the situation, you may speak with your child's coach or contact CYAA leadership.

What happens if a game is canceled because of weather or field conditions?
Safety comes first. CYAA will communicate cancellations and rescheduling information as soon
as possible.
