Q.) DO I HAVE TO LIVE IN AFFTON?

Q.) IS AFHL A ROLLER HOCKEY LEAGUE?
  • No, we play in GYM SHOES, with a plastic hockey puck, and standard hockey goals on a gym floor.
Q.) IS THIS A CO-ED LEAGUE?
  • YES! ALL TEAMS/LEAGUES ARE CO-ED
Q.) IS THERE ANY CONTACT?
  • The league is “NO CHECKING” however there is occasional contact through normal game play.
Q.) ARE SLAP SHOTS ALLOWED?
  • NO. High stick infractions are called for sticks that go too high and for anythning that “looks” like a slap shot. (at the referees discretion)
Q.) WHAT EQUIPMENT IS REQUIRED?
  • Hockey Stick: All sticks are generally accepted (street hockey, ice hockey, wooden, plastic, composite, etc.) When measuring a stick for a player, a good rule is to place the blade on the floor in front of the player. The “butt end” should fall somewhere between the player’s chin and nose. ALL BLADES MUST BE TAPED WITH WHITE TAPE!
  • Hockey Gloves: NOT REQURIED - but Any PADDED athletic gloves are generally accepted (street hockey, ice hockey, lacrosse, etc.) MOTO-CROSS gloves are NOT acceptable.
  • Hockey Helmet: ONLY GOALIES - League Provides Goalie Equipment.
  • Shin Guards: NOT REQUIRED - but helpful for the little ones.
  • All of the equipment above can be purchased locally at Dick’s Sporting Goods, Play It Again Sports, Etc. The AFHL Committee and Referees reserve the right to deem equipment unacceptable at any time for safety. No player will be allowed to play without acceptable and safe equipment AT ANY TIME.
Q.) WHEN ARE PRACTICES / LEAGUE GAMES?
  • Practices are during the week and usually don’t last longer than an hour.
  • League Games are played on Saturdays with the exception of a few major holidays.
Q.) WHEN DOES THE SEASON START/END?
  • Season runs during the months of late October, November, December, January annd February.
  • ALL-STAR GAME IS PLAYED EARLY MARCH.

Q.) HOW MANY DIVISONS DO YOU HAVE?

  • There are five divisons in the AFHL:
  1. PEE WEE (GRADES Kindergarten & 1st)
  2. MIDGET (GRADES 2nd & 3rd)
  3. JUNIOR (GRADES 4th & 5th)
  4. SENIOR (GRADES 6th to 8th)
  5. HIGH SCHOOL (GRADES 9th to 12th)
Q.) WHO REFEREES THE GAMES?
  • PAID REFEREES SUPERVISE EACH GAME. SAFETY AND SPORTSMANSHIP ARE STRESSED.
Q.) AGE TO PLAY?
  • The league goes by SCHOOL GRADE and NOT AGE.
Q.) CAN I PLAY WITH MY FRIENDS/SIBLINGS?
  • We try to put friends together but it's not always guaranteed. It all depends on how many teams and signups we have currently. SIBLINGS are always a top priority for us to put together.
Q.) I AM INTERESTED IN COACHING, WHERE DO I SIGN UP?
