Only players registered in the league are allowed to play.
Only registered league spares are allowed to play and spares are not allowed to play in the playoffs unless given permission by the league President
If a team has less than 10 players, they are expected to obtain player(s) from the official league spares list to bring them up to 10.
All Games
Once the ice resurfacing is complete, there will be a 3-minute warm-up. Play will begin at the end of this time period.
At the end of the period, goalies will switch sides.
Play will resume with a face-off at centre ice within 1 minute.
There will not be a maximum number of goals that an individual player may score. However, if it becomes an issue, then this rule will be modified (probably to include a maximum number of goals by an individual during a game of 3).
Slapshots are not permitted. Player sticks must remain below the height of the knee when taking a shot.
When a goaltender is struck in the head with a shot, the play will automatically be blown dead by the official.
Blue line icing rules are followed. Players must be past their own respective blue line for it not to be whistled as icing.
Teams
Each season a draft will be held prior to the beginning of the season in order to create the teams.
Between four team captains selections will be made in rounds. In each round the same skill level player is selected
When selecting teams players are allowed to name one (1) person with whom they would like to be on the same team as
The league will do its best to accommodate that request
Exceptions can be allowed under certain specific circumstances
Team captains also have the option to have a maximum of 3 protected picks which allows them to name up to 3 players who cannot be selected by other teams
Balancing will occur after 2 complete cycles, 6 weeks and when each team has played each other twice
After this period team balancing will occur and players may be moved between teams
Once team balancing has concluded, even if there are no moves, no further team changes will be made
Regular Season
Each team will play 23 regular season games, followed by 7 weeks of playoff games.
Regular Season games will consist of 3 running time periods of 13 minutes with the last 5 minutes of the third period as stop time.
If a scorekeeper is unavailable games will be played with 3 running time periods of 15 minutes each with no stop time
League points/standings will be calculated for playoff purposes.
2 points for a victory
1 point for a tie
No timeouts during the regular season
Playoffs
Playoffs will consist of a 2 cycle round-robin tournament with the top 2 teams advancing to the finals.
Each team will play one another 2 times during the round-robin.
There will be no OT or shootout during the round-robin and games will end as a Win, Loss, or Tie
If there is a tie in the standings at the end of the round-robin the team with the better regular season record will advance to the final
If teams are tied based on the regular season standings, then the tiebreaker will be as follows:
Head-to-head record
Goal Differential
Total Penalty Minutes (Lower is better)
Round Robin Playoff games will consist 3 running time periods of 13 minutes with the last 5 minutes of the third period as stop time
Playoff Final is a single winner take all game consisting of 3 running time periods of 13 minutes with the last 5 minutes of the third period as stop time
In the event the playoff game is tied, a 3-on-3 sudden death 5-minute overtime will be played. If the game is still tied at the end of this extra time period, then a best-of-3 shoot-out is allowed. If it is still tied, then the shootout continues until there is a winner.
Please note that due to time restrictions, the championship final will be played at 7:15 PM and that overtime and the shootout could encroach on the 8:15 PM game resulting in players having less than 50 minutes of ice time for the consolation final.
The shootout format is a simultaneous shootout in which both teams’ players line up at centre and shoot on the goalie at the same time.
Time-outs (30 seconds) will only be allowed in the playoffs. This includes Round Robin and the Final Round.
Penalties
Minor Penalties
A minor penalty assigned to a player during runtime will receive 3 minutes
A minor penalty assigned to a player during stop time will receive 2 minutes
Any penalty assessed during runtime that crosses into runtime will expire after the full 3 minutes; no reduction in penalty time
Players who are penalized with a minor penalty must serve the penalty in the penalty box. The penalty is over if the penalized team is scored upon or the penalty duration expires.
Major Penalties
Any major penalty assessed to a player will result in immediate ejection from the game.
The length of a major penalty is 6 minutes during runtime or stop time
This penalty only ends when the time expires
The team of the offending player who is removed from the game must still serve the major penalty
The penalized team can swap players in the penalty box so that a single player does not have to serve the entire penalty
A player must serve at least 90 seconds of the penalty before switching
Switching can only occur on a stoppage in play
During a penalty, if there is a stoppage of play due to injury or goalie equipment issue the clock will be stopped and restarted once the situation has been resolved with a faceoff restarting play
The game will not be extended due to such a stoppage in play and may result in a truncated third-period
Players who receive 3 minor penalties during a game will automatically be ejected for the remainder of this game
A double minor counts as two penalties toward this limit
If a player accrues 30 or more penalty minutes during the season, the player is suspended for 1 game. No appeal process.
