VAUGHN PARKER II - HEAD COACH/CAMP DIRECTOR

Vaughn Parker II is the head baseball coach at Wilson College and the director of the Wilson College Baseball Prospect Camp. He leads the Phoenix program with an emphasis on offensive development, competitive preparation, player relationships and creating opportunities for student-athletes.

Coach Parker joined the Wilson coaching staff as an assistant in November 2022. Wilson promoted him to head coach in July 2023, making him the second head coach in program history.

We are excited to have Coach Parker leading the camp and working directly with prospective student-athletes. Players will receive instruction built around the same offensive principles, preparation habits and competitive standards he teaches within the Wilson College program.

Hitters looking to improve their mechanics, develop a better plan at the plate and understand how college offenses create pressure will benefit from Coach Parker’s experience as a college head coach, former NCAA Division I player and professional baseball player.

OFFENSIVE DEVELOPMENT AT WILSON COLLEGE

Coach Parker has helped establish Wilson as one of the most productive offensive programs in NCAA Division III baseball.

• Historic 2023 Season: As an assistant coach, Parker helped Wilson finish 34–10 and set a program record for victories.

• Three National Statistical Titles: Wilson finished the 2023 season as the NCAA Division III statistical champion in batting average, runs per game and slugging percentage.

• Best Average in College Baseball: Wilson’s 2023 team batting average led every level of college baseball, regardless of division or association.

• Continued National Success: During Parker’s first season as head coach in 2024, the Phoenix once again led NCAA Division III in hitting with a .350 team batting average.

• Program Leadership: As head coach, Parker oversees recruiting, player development, practice planning, game preparation and the overall direction of the Wilson baseball program.

His offensive approach combines sound mechanics, strike-zone discipline, aggressive decision-making and a clear plan for every at-bat. He teaches hitters to understand situations, control the strike zone and build an approach that holds up against quality pitching.

NCAA DIVISION I AND PROFESSIONAL PLAYING EXPERIENCE

Coach Parker’s instruction comes from his experience competing at the collegiate and professional levels.

• Mount St. Mary’s University: Appeared in 154 games during his NCAA Division I career with the Mountaineers.

• All-Conference Recognition: Earned All-Northeast Conference honors during his career at The Mount.

• Professional Baseball: Played two professional seasons with the Trinidad Triggers and Monterey Amberjacks.

• Pecos League All-Star: Earned all-star recognition during his professional career.

• Academic Accomplishment: Graduated from Mount St. Mary’s in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in business communications.

That experience allows Parker to connect offensive instruction with the physical, mental and preparation demands players will face as they advance through the game.

MAKE A PLAY PLAYER DEVELOPMENT

Beyond Wilson College, Coach Parker owns and operates Make A Play Player Development in Frederick, Maryland.

Through Make A Play, he provides individual instruction, player-development opportunities and recruiting guidance to athletes working toward the next level. His experience as a player, coach and recruiter gives him a complete perspective on development.

He understands what players must improve on the field, how they should communicate with college coaches and what separates prospects when coaches begin making recruiting decisions.

WHAT CAMPERS WILL LEARN

Throughout the camp, Coach Parker will help players develop a better understanding of:

• Building an efficient and repeatable swing

• Creating a strong setup and lower-half foundation

• Improving timing and barrel accuracy

• Controlling the strike zone

• Developing a plan for each at-bat

• Making adjustments between pitches and plate appearances

• Hitting successfully in different counts and situations

• Understanding what college coaches evaluate in hitters

• Preparing for the college recruiting process

Coach Parker believes successful hitters need more than physical tools. They must understand their swing, develop a consistent approach and compete with a purpose every time they step into the box.

His goal is to give each camper practical instruction, honest feedback and a clearer understanding of what it takes to become a successful college baseball player.

PATRICK DUFFY - ASSISTANT COACH/PITCHING COACH

Patrick Duffy serves as the Assistant Baseball Coach and Pitching Coach at Wilson College. With more than 28 years of coaching experience, 310 varsity victories, five state championships, four conference championships, and six Coach of the Year honors, Coach Duffy brings an extensive record of program building, player development, and leadership to the Phoenix staff.

At Wilson, Coach Duffy oversees the development and preparation of the pitching staff. He designs throwing programs, recovery routines, bullpen plans, pitcher-specific practices, and game strategies while helping pitchers improve their command, pitch usage, preparation, and competitive approach. He also works with Wilson’s catchers on game planning, communication, and controlling the running game.

Beyond his work with current players, Coach Duffy plays an active role in recruiting, scouting, roster evaluation, and identifying prospective student-athletes who fit Wilson College academically, athletically, and personally.

Campers will learn from a coach who has built championship programs, developed college and professional players, and spent more than two decades helping athletes turn potential into performance.

310 WINS AND A CHAMPIONSHIP COACHING CAREER

Coach Duffy has earned more than 300 victories as a varsity head coach while leading programs at The Avalon School, Bullis School, and St. John’s Catholic Prep.

He spent nearly two decades building The Avalon School baseball program into one of the region’s most successful small-school programs. Under his leadership, Avalon won five state championships and four conference championships. His teams developed a reputation for preparation, discipline, toughness, and their willingness to compete against larger and more heavily resourced programs.

Coach Duffy’s career accomplishments include:

• 310 high school varsity victories

• Five state championships

• Four conference championships

• Six Coach of the Year honors

• Nearly two decades leading The Avalon School baseball program

• Head coaching experience at Avalon, Bullis, and St. John’s Catholic Prep

• More than 10 seasons coaching collegiate summer baseball

• Experience developing players from the youth level through college

• Former players who advanced to NCAA Division I, II, and III programs

• Experience coaching players who continued into professional baseball

Those accomplishments came through years of building rosters, developing players, establishing standards, and creating environments where athletes understood that talent alone would not guarantee success.

NCAA PITCHING DEVELOPMENT

As Wilson College’s pitching coach, Coach Duffy teaches pitchers how to prepare for the complete demands of the position.

His pitching philosophy emphasizes attacking the strike zone, controlling both sides of the plate, changing speeds, disrupting timing, and pitching with a clear plan. He helps pitchers understand that successful pitching requires more than velocity. Command, movement, sequencing, fielding, preparation, recovery, and competitiveness all influence a pitcher’s ability to record outs.

His instruction includes:

• Throwing-program design and arm preparation

• Bullpen planning and development

• Pitch grips, movement, and command

• Pitch sequencing and hitter-specific game plans

• Changing speeds and disrupting timing

• Pitcher fielding practice

• Pickoffs and controlling the running game

• Bunt defense and defensive responsibilities

• In-season recovery and workload management

• Mental routines and competing under pressure

Coach Duffy works to give pitchers a repeatable process they can continue using after the camp ends.

PROGRAM BUILDER AND ATHLETIC LEADER

Coach Duffy’s experience extends beyond the dugout. He served as Director of Athletics at The Avalon School and later held athletic administration roles at Bullis School, including Assistant Director of Athletics and Middle School Athletic Director.

Those positions required him to oversee coaches, schedules, facilities, budgets, transportation, eligibility, events, and communication with families. That administrative background gives him a broad understanding of how successful athletic programs operate and what schools expect from their student-athletes.

At Bullis, Coach Duffy also helped transform the school’s baseball camp experience. Participation increased by more than 80 percent as the camp grew from 35 to 64 players through stronger organization, communication, instruction, and attention to the experience of each family.

RECRUITING AND COLLEGE PLACEMENT

Throughout his career, Coach Duffy has helped players navigate the college recruiting process and pursue opportunities across every NCAA level.

At Wilson, he communicates with recruits, evaluates players, prepares scouting reports, tracks positional needs, and helps determine whether a prospect fits the program. That gives campers a valuable opportunity to receive instruction and recruiting guidance from someone directly involved in building an NCAA college roster.

Coach Duffy helps prospective student-athletes understand that college coaches evaluate much more than statistics and showcase measurements. They also look at preparation, body language, communication, competitiveness, academic performance, coachability, and how a player responds when something goes wrong.

Coach Duffy believes strong programs develop the entire person behind the player. His goal is to help each camper leave with better baseball knowledge, an honest understanding of what college coaches expect, and a practical plan for continuing his development.

Players will not simply hear what it takes to reach the next level. They will learn from a coach who has spent more than 25 years building winning programs and helping athletes get there.

MYLES NICHOLSON - ASSISTANT COACH

Myles Nicholson serves as an Assistant Baseball Coach at Wilson College, bringing an accomplished NCAA Division I playing career and a strong understanding of offensive development, baserunning, defensive versatility, and the competitive mindset required to succeed at the college level.

Before beginning his coaching career, Coach Nicholson established himself as one of the most productive and respected players in the region. He competed for four seasons at Mount St. Mary’s University before completing his college career at UMBC. Across both programs, he earned conference, regional, academic, and university-wide recognition.

We are excited to have Coach Nicholson working with campers and sharing the same offensive approach, aggressive baserunning mentality, and preparation habits that helped him become a two-time Division I All-Region player.

TWO-TIME DIVISION I ALL-REGION SELECTION

Coach Nicholson earned ABCA/Rawlings All-Region honors at two different Division I programs.

During his 2019 season at Mount St. Mary’s, he hit .365, stole a school-record 37 bases, and finished fourth nationally in stolen bases. That performance earned him First Team All-Northeast Conference and ABCA/Rawlings East All-Region First Team honors.

Coach Nicholson later transferred to UMBC for his graduate season and produced another outstanding year. He led the America East Conference with a .387 batting average while collecting 70 hits and stealing 29 bases. His 29 stolen bases tied UMBC’s single-season record.

He earned America East Second Team and All-Academic Team honors before the ABCA named him to its 2022 East All-Region Second Team.

His college accomplishments include:

• Two-time ABCA/Rawlings Division I All-Region selection

• 2019 East All-Region First Team at Mount St. Mary’s

• 2022 East All-Region Second Team at UMBC

• First Team All-Northeast Conference

• Second Team All-America East Conference

• America East All-Academic Team

• Mount St. Mary’s career record with 79 stolen bases

• Mount single-season record with 37 stolen bases

• UMBC single-season record with 29 stolen bases

• A .365 batting average at Mount in 2019

• An America East-leading .387 batting average at UMBC in 2022

THE JOHN M. KOLON AWARD

Coach Nicholson’s college career included more than impressive statistics and postseason honors. In 2021, Mount St. Mary’s presented him with the John M. Kolon Award.

The Mount athletic department votes on the award, which recognizes student-athletes who earn the respect and admiration of their fellow athletes and coaches through hard work, determination, and inspirational effort.

That distinction speaks directly to the qualities Coach Nicholson brings to Wilson College and the prospect camp. His teammates and coaches respected him not only because of what he accomplished on the field, but also because of how he competed, prepared, and represented his program.

At UMBC, he also received the Dr. Charles R. Brown Outstanding Athlete Award, one of the university’s major athletic honors.

SPEED, OFFENSE, AND BASERUNNING

Coach Nicholson’s speed separated him throughout his playing career, but his success on the bases involved much more than running ability.

He learned how to study pitchers, recognize tendencies, control his leads, read pickoff moves, anticipate opportunities, and apply pressure to opposing defenses. His career numbers reflect a player who combined physical ability with preparation and baseball intelligence.

He also developed into a complete offensive player. His ability to hit for average, reach base, handle the bat, and contribute from multiple defensive positions allowed him to impact games in several ways.

Coach Nicholson gives campers the perspective of someone who succeeded at two NCAA Division I programs and earned recognition for both performance and character. His goal is to help players understand how preparation, competitiveness, versatility, and attention to detail can turn athletic ability into consistent production.
