Rules for Suspended Playoff Games
Definitions:
- Suspended game: The game that was started but not completed.
- Continuation game: The game that you play to complete the suspended game.
- Second game: The game played on the same day after continuation game on the same day.
Note: The Penalty for violating the Pitching Inning Limit rules is forfeit of the game. It is your responsibility to understand the limits and adhere to them. Wellwood has forfeited games for pitching inning limit violations in the past. You have been warned.
- You play the continuation game as if it was one continuous game with the suspended game. Any players who were not in attendance at the suspended game would be considered as players who came to the game late and would be added to the bottom of the lineup and come up whenever the bottom of the lineup is up. For example, if your last batter before the suspension was the last batter in your lineup, the "new" players would actually be the first batters in the game continuation. Any players who were in the suspended game, but are not present in the continuation game have their places skipped in the lineup with no penalty. If they arrive late, then they will bat when their turn comes up, even if it has already been skipped once. If the batter who was batting at the time of the suspensions is not present, then the next batter in the lineup takes their place and assumes the count that was in effect at the time of game suspension.
- Any pitcher who was not eligible to pitch in the remainder of the suspended game is not eligible to pitch in the continuation game either. This means that any pitcher who has already pitched for 3 innings in the suspended game OR has already pitched in the suspended game and then removed from the mound OR has already hit the 6 inning per week pitching limit is not eligible to pitch in the continuation game just as he would not have been eligible to pitch any more innings in the suspended game.
- The last pitcher of the suspended game may start the continuation game; this is not considered removal from the mound. However, if the last pitcher of the suspended game does not start the continuation game, then he will be considered removed from the mound and cannot pitch in the continuation game.
- If the suspended game was played in the prior week, both last week's and this week's limits will apply. This means that a pitchers combined innings in the continuation game and last week pitching innings is limited to 6. In addition, innings pitched in the continuation game do also count against this week's pitching limits. The limit per week (Sunday through Saturday) is 6 innings.
- The last pitcher in a continuation game can start the second game of the day. However, the 3 inning maximum applies to innings pitched in both games combined. Any pitcher who pitches in the continuation game but does not finish the continuation game cannot pitch in the 2nd game. If the last pitcher of the continuation game does not start the 2nd game, the last pitcher of the continuation game may not pitch later in the 2nd game. The idea is that we do not allow removing a pitcher and re-entering in one day, but if the games are played consecutively, then we will treat this the last inning of the continuation game and the first inning of the second game as contiguous so the last pitcher in the continuation game can start the first inning of the second game.
