2025 Flag and Tackle Football Season Details

Welcome to Waltham Youth Football, where we strive to inspire young athletes through teamwork, sportsmanship, and a passion for football, building a strong sense of community along the way. The 2025 football season promises to be an exciting and rewarding experience for players of all skill levels, whether they are participating in flag football or tackle football.

Monday, August 4: Flag & Tackle Football Paperwork Deadline and Tackle Football Payment Deadline
IMPORTANT:  Your child will not be permitted to practice on August 4 [tackle] or August 19 [flag] if paperwork is not completed in full. This included medical information, birth certificate and June 2025 report card.  No uniforms or equipment will be distributed to players without full payment.

UNIFORM AND EQUIPMENT:

Waltham Youth Football will provide...
Flag Football: game jersey, game socks
Tackle Football: helmet, shoulderpads, practice jersey/pants, game jersey/pants/socks

Players must have their own...
Flag Football: waterbottle [clearly labeled with player's name], mouthguard, cleats 
Tackle Football: waterbottle, mouthguard [recommended with strap], cleats, 7-pad girldle

General Football Information

Flag Football [Grades K through 3]: Our flag football program is designed for younger players, focusing on skill development, game strategies, and fundamentals in a non-contact environment. This format ensures that athletes can enjoy the game safely while building confidence and an understanding of football techniques.

Season Dates: Practices begin in mid-August, with games running from early September through November. Practices and Games: Practices are scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while games are usually held on Sundays, with occasional Saturday matchups. For our Kindergarten team, there are just a few introductory practices in August, followed by a weekend game throughout the season. 


Instructional Tackle Football [Grades 2 and 3]: The instructional tackle program introduces young athletes to football fundamentals in a safe, structured environment. The program focuses on skill development, teamwork, age-appropriate activities, proper tackling techniques, and simplified playbooks to build a strong foundation.

Season Dates: Conditioning starts in early-August, with the regular season beginning in September through November. Practices and Games:Practices are held 2-3 days a week, and games are scheduled for weekends. 


Tackle Football [Grades 4 through 8]: The tackle football program provides older youth athletes with the opportunity to participate in a more competitive and structured environment. Coaches focus heavily on safety, teaching proper techniques, and building teamwork.

Season Dates: Conditioning starts in early-August, with the regular season beginning in September and concluding with playoffs in November. Practices and Games: Practices are held 3-4 days a week, and games are scheduled for weekends.
