Want to play in the Upstate Premier League but don’t have a team yet?
Our Free Agent Program makes it easy for individual players to join the league and get picked up by established teams.

Whether you’re new to the area, don’t have a full squad, or just want to jump into competitive soccer, the Free Agent list is the best way to get involved.

How It Works

1. Register as a Free Agent ($20)

To join the Free Agent list, players must submit the free agent registration form and pay a non-refundable $20 Free Agent Fee.

This fee covers:

- Your player pass

- Eligibility verification

- Placement management

This fee does not cover all your season dues — it simply gets you officially into the system and eligible for placement. It will be deducted from your total player cost upon placement.

2. Captains Request Free Agents Through the League

Team captains review the Free Agent pool and notify the league when they want to claim a player.

Captains cannot directly add free agents to their roster.

Once a captain submits a claim, the league:

- Reviews the request

- Confirms it aligns with roster limits / confirms eligibility

- Approves or denies the placement

3. League Contacts the Free Agent

Once approved, the league contacts the free agent directly to let them know:

- What team they’ve been placed on

- Who their captain is

- What their remaining player dues will be

- When they can begin playing

Free Agent Player Costs

The league fee is per person, not a team fee.

Once placed on a team, the free agent pays their individual player fee, which is based on:

- How early or late in the season they join

- Number of remaining games

- Whether the player is replacing an injured/withdrawn roster spot

Examples:

- Full-season player → full player fee

- Mid-season placement → prorated fee

- Late-season replacement → reduced fee

This ensures every player pays fairly based on their participation.

Placement Expectations

Free agents should be prepared to:

- Respond promptly when placement is offered

- Pay their season fee immediately once assigned

- Attend matches reliably

- Follow all league rules and the Code of Conduct

Placement is not guaranteed, but the league works to place as many qualified players as possible.

What Happens After Placement?

Once placed:

- You are officially added to the team’s roster and will get your jersey from the team captain

- You must check in with your player pass and ID before each match

- You can participate in all league games, stats, awards, and playoffs
