Frequently Asked Questions

What will the spring season look like?

Games and tournaments are April-May. Plan on at least two games minimum every weekend, usually played back-to-back. Some weekends the boys will participate in regional tournaments. No overnight accommodation will be necessary for tournament travel.

Our family has other commitments during Sunday morning practices, will this impact my son’s lacrosse season?

We expect commitment from all our boys on the team. We also understand that every family has other commitments and responsibilities throughout the year. We need to see the boys on Sunday mornings, but also understand that perfect attendance is not in every family’s wheelhouse.

We hope that those who commit to Solon Lacrosse Club will be available for a majority of the practices, games and tournaments.

Also, if your son is new to the sport, they need as much training as possible. Our coaches are ready to build and develop each player, but they can only do that if they’re in attendance.

Are there scholarships available to help with the registration costs?

Unfortunately, no. As our program continues to grow, we hope this is something we can offer in the future.

What do my registration fees go toward?

The registration fee pays for indoor practice fields, tournament costs, team incentives & league fees.

I’ve coached youth sports in the past, but I don’t know anything about lacrosse. How can I be helpful?

You can still be a great help at practices. The more adults we have, the easier it will be for our boys to run the drills. You’ll learn faster than you think.

What can my son do at home to prepare before practices begin in January?

Practice holding the stick loosely within finger tips—NOT like a baseball bat!!—and try throwing tennis balls to him if you have the space and making sure that he is following path of ball all the way into stick. There is a ton of information on YouTube about this and I strongly encourage the boys to explore the topic.

What pieces of equipment is my son responsible for having at practices/games, outside of the jersey?

Helmet;  Shoulder Pads; Lacrosse Stick; Arm Pads; Mouthguard; Gloves; Cleats; Cup
