The Game

 

Length of Game - Regular Season & Playoffs

  1. Games are 45 minutes in length. Teams will be given a 5 minute warm up.  Games will consist of  3 periods of 15 minutes each with run time format and a 2 minute breaks between periods. 

Overtime

  1. Regular season will have no over time or shootouts all games tied will remain that way and each team given a point each. 

Stoppages

There will be a stoppage in play after the following situations:

  1. Goal;
  2. Penalty;
  3. Ball out of play; and/or
  4. The goalie held the ball for more than a few seconds. 

In addition, with two (2) minutes or less remaining in regulation, time will also be stopped following any of the foregoing stoppages.

 
Face-offs 

  1. Face-offs at centre-court will be used at the start of each period of play and after goals.
  2. Faceoffs in the Zone will occur after the goalie freezes the ball.

Drop-balls

  1. The ball will be dropped in front of the player. Any opposing player must give the player with the ball at least one (1) second.
  2. Drop-balls will be used following penalties and/or when the ball leaves the playing area.

 

Scoring Goals

  1. To score a legal goal, it cannot be kicked in, struck with a stick above the shoulders and/or pushed in using the hand.

Penalties

  1. Penalties are called when a player commits a foul. The offending player is then removed from playing for a period of time, depending on the severity of the infraction and the team continues to play without losing a player.
  2. Penalties include, but are not limited to:
  3. Fighting (subject to the ref's discretion, the instigator will automatically be ejected from the game and any secondary party and/or tertiary party involved will also be ejected; additional suspensions may be given to any party involved, subject to the opinion of the referee and the discretion of the league commissioner) 
  4. Harassment of Officials (wherein a player physically and/or verbally abuses a league official) - subject to the discretion of the referee and/or league commissioner (minimum 2-minute penalty)
  5. ​High-sticking (wherein a player touches the ball and/or an opposing player with their stick while their stick is above the offending player's shoulder) - 2 minutes
  6. Holding (wherein a player holds an opposing player with their hands, stick or in any other manner) - 2 minutes
  7. Roughing (wherein a player is guilty of unnecessary rough play) - 2 minutes
  8. Throwing Stick (wherein a player intentionally throws their stick at another player and/or the ball) - 2 minutes (subject to referee's discretion and/or the severity of the incident; if the stick is thrown by opposing player while a player is on a breakaway and the opposing goalie is pulled, automatic goal)
  9. Too Many Players on the Court (wherein a team or both teams have more players than they are allowed to on the court) - 2 minutes
  10. Tripping (wherein a player trips an opposing player with their stick and/or a part of their body) - 2 minutes

Additional penalties may be called by the referee as they see fit. In addition, the length of a penalty that results in a player being injured is subject to the discretion of the referee.

 

​Team Rules

  1. Subject to approval by the league commissioner, substituted players may be eligible to play at any game where a team has six (5) or fewer non-goalie players and/or if their goalie is not available and/or fails to attend the game.
  2. During gameplay, teams will each play with four (4) out players and one (1) goalie on the court.

​Rain/Inclement Weather Policy

  1. Rain or shine we would like to have the games continue on. in the case of lighting there will be a 20 miniute delay or until the weather seems safe to continue. 
  2. If a game commences and is stopped by the referee due to inclement weather, with less than eleven (15) minutes remaining in the game, the game will be considered complete.
