NTYL baseball welcomes boys and girls entering 1st through 6th grade with a focus on developing skills, growing our understanding of the game and working toward our goals as a team in a supportive and competitive environment. While winning is great it's even more important to us that our players are having fun and developing a love for the game. All activities are completely volunteer run and supported by the local community. We play as the Newark Valley Cardinals and welcome players from the Newark Valley School district and surrounding areas. We are not affiliated with the school and players are not required to be enrolled in the district. Our teams compete both in league games, through the Southern Tier Baseball League, as well as non-league games with surrounding towns.
Coach Pitch (U8) - Players in 1st and 2nd grade learn the structure of the game honing thier hitting skills off the tee, pitching machine, and coach pitches. They learn fielding in their positions (including catcher) and work together to make plays with active runners.
Minors (U10) - Players advance to Minors in 3rd and 4th grade where kid pitch is introduced. Games consist of six innings or max time allowed with early innings pitched by a machine and later innings pitched by a live pitcher. Players continue to develop hitting skills with, tee, toss, and live pitch drills. More advanced fielding drills, game rules and strategies are introduced. Teams may participate in league play at either the experienced or rising stars levels at the discretion of coaching staff.
Majors (U12) - Players in 5th and 6th grade move to Majors where kid pitch takes over the game. Additional advanced rules and game strategies are introduced. Players continue to drill all of the basics practicing pitching, catching, fielding, and hitting (tee, toss, pitcher). Teams may participate in league play at either the experienced or rising stars levels at the discretion of coaching staff.
