2026 MMSPL Rules

MMSPL follows the SPN rulebook with the following exceptions:

• 5 run mercy per inning
• Mercy rule of 15 runs after 4 innings, and 10 runs after 5 innings

• In the Thursday Masters divisions (both Int and Rec) there are unlimited courtesy runners
  • Runners must be masters age (35 years as of December 31, 2026, or older)
  • The same courtesy runner cannot be used in the same inning
• In all divisions EXCEPT Thusday Masters divisions (i.e. Tuesday and Wednesday divisions)
  • Five (5) courtesy runners per game
  • Must be different runners
• Minimum of 8 players to start a game
• Late/new players are added to the bottom of the lineup, even if the batting order has batted around
• Injured players leaving the game are not an out in the batting order, but cannot reenter any games on the same day
• Unlimited home runs
• No tagging beyond the commitment line
• Uniform rule in effect on June 1, 2026 (teams must wear matching tops)
• All pitchers must wear a mask

• The Pitcher Replacement Rule/Temporary Runner Rule is in effect as described below from the SPN Rulebook:

• Sec. 16 PITCHER REPLACEMENT RULE/TEMPORARY RUNNER: A temporary runner must be used for a pitcher who is on base with two out, who wears visible outer protective equipment to pitch (ex: mask and leg pads) This is to permit the pitcher to don their protective equipment and not delay the game. This will not apply if the pitcher is only wearing a face or head protection, or the protective equipment is worn under the uniform. The following provisions apply: 1) It is not optional. 2) There must be two out. 3) If the pitcher is on base with less than two outs, the Temporary Runner must be used after the second out occurs. 4) The Temporary Runner can be anyone on the line-up card. 5) If the pitcher is the runner in the tie-breaker situation, they will be considered the same as if they had batted and would be replaced by a Temporary Runner with two out. 6) Re-entry and substitution rules are waived for the Temporary Runner. 7) If a Temporary Runner is due to go to bat, any other player on the line-up card can be used for the Temporary Runner without penalty.
