Umpires
Umpires of games held at Lampson Park are scheduled by Lions Baseball. 9U games will often be umpired by 11U players, and 11U games are likely umpired by 13U players.
If your player is interested in umpiring please get in contact with our Umpire-in-Chief so we can notify you of upcoming courses (usually offered in Winter).

Requirements to becoming an Umpire
Follow this list each year!
1. Pay the annual BCBUA membership fee.
BCBUA is the British Columbia Baseball Umpires Association. The annual membership fee is reimbursed by the Association after you work your first game. Register here: https://bcbua.ca/registration
2. Register for an Umpire Clinic.
Register for a Clinic. This is mandatory; both for new umpires and for skill development for returning umps: https://bcbua.ca/registration
To clarify: you must attend a Clinic annually to work as a Lions Umpire.
3. Review the Clinic Requirements and Pass the Level test.
YOU MUST TAKE AND PASS THE TEST FOR WHICHEVER LEVEL YOU’RE AT EVERY YEAR. The test is available on the BCBUA Website, usually by mid February. An outline of Clinic Requirements and Umpiring Roadmap can be found here: BCBUA Clinic Requirements and Roadmap
4. Register with Lions to Umpire Games
- Umpires new to Lions: email the Umpire in Chief your contact information, any previous experience, and level completed (if applicable).
Umpire Dress Code
Dressing professionally is fundamental to establishing an umpire’s authority, even before the game begins. Here is the required dress code:
- BCBUA logo polo shirt (tucked in).
Level 1: Powder Blue. - Black dress pants
- Black belt
- Black undershirt
- BCBUA logo hat
- Black socks (no ankles showing)
- Black shoes
- Cup: Mandatory for Plate Umpires; recommended for Bases.
