The Vancouver Women’s Field Hockey Association congratulates the Meraloma Club on its induction into the BC Sports Hall of Fame, a milestone celebrating decades of athletic excellence and community impact.

The induction ceremony took place this week at BC Place, where the Hall of Fame is located. The honour recognizes 50 years since field hockey became the first women’s sport to be added to the Meraloma Club in 1974 — a groundbreaking moment for women in sport in British Columbia.

At the event, attendees reflected on the club’s proud history, including its 1974 Tour of the UK, where athletes proudly wore the iconic white jersey with an orange stripe.

Representing the field hockey community were:

  • Cathy Romans (Lomas 2)
  • Deb Moynahan (Umpire, Meraloma Club)
  • Drew Sagar (Club Executive)
  • Jasmine Lee (Lomas 2)

This recognition highlights the enduring legacy of women’s field hockey in Vancouver and the dedicated athletes, coaches, and volunteers who have strengthened the sport over the past five decades.

Congratulations to all who contributed to this incredible achievement!
