For 14 years or so, he was a linchpin of the Black team, and for the last four or five, a seasoned veteran with the Stolli squad. His tale isn't just about playing; it's about the love of the game, the camaraderie, and the enduring passion that transcends time. Shayler's entry into organized football was a twist of fate, a moment of serendipity at the Bob Turner field. "It was Black who recruited me," he recalls, the memory etched in his mind. "I was playing baseball, and they were about to start a league game. Despite my initial hesitations, the persistent encouragement from my friend, quarterback Kevin Larin, and other local players ultimately swayed me. I suited up right there and then." That impromptu debut was a revelation, with Shayler seamlessly transitioning back to the gridiron, showcasing his versatility with two interceptions and two touchdowns, a nostalgic callback to his minor football days. "I fell back in love with football," he says, his voice filled with genuine enthusiasm. "And for 14 years with team Black, I never looked back."

His passion for sports was ignited in childhood, nurtured by parents who fostered his diverse athletic interests. His mother's stories of his father's hockey prowess fueled a love for contact sports. "I loved football immediately," he explains, "relishing the physical aspect of the game, making catches, taking hits, and getting right back up."

"The championships, five in total, are always highlights," Shayler reflects, "but what truly matters is the team dynamic." He emphasizes the importance of camaraderie, the bond that transcends talent. "A great team is like a family. Talent can only take you so far, but having character guys with heart, who care, and develop a respect and love for one another is the key to winning it all."

He finds his greatest joy in the shared experience, the collective triumph. "Stepping back and seeing the joy on everyone's faces, it's euphoric," he says. "It’s not just the players, but their families, friends, everyone who supported us." Shayler's commitment remains unwavering, "Every year is a blessing," he says, approaching his career with gratitude and a season-by-season perspective. He maintains his peak condition by staying active in hockey and baseball during the football off-season, ensuring he's always "locked in physically, mentally, and emotionally."

Beyond the wins, Shayler recognizes the profound impact of team sports on personal well-being. "Football, like any team sport, creates connection and community, you never know what struggles a teammate might be facing, or how much those nights together mean to them." He underscores the importance of support, both on and off the field. "When things get intense, it's crucial to be kind and supportive."
