CrossFit Takes Down Undefeated Liberty Tax in CMFFL Championship

The regular season concluded with the dominant Liberty Tax team achieving a spectacular, undefeated 14-0 record, setting the stage for a seemingly inevitable championship coronation. However, the Cornwall Men’s Flag Football League (CMFFL) proved once again that playoff intensity trumps regular season perfection. In a dramatic, hard-fought final, CrossFit overcame every obstacle to claim the championship title. Liberty Tax finished the regular season as the undisputed top seed with a flawless 14-0 record, leaving their closest rivals, Co-Operators (8-4-2), and CrossFit (8-5-1), well behind. While Liberty Tax's dominance was unquestionable, CrossFit entered the final with the momentum of a hungry underdog, ready to prove their worth on the biggest stage. The final game, played under blustery conditions, immediately set a tense tone. CrossFit, starting with the ball, executed a textbook opening drive, marching down the field and capitalizing with a touchdown pass to Sam Hutchingame. The wind immediately played a factor, turning the simple PAT snap into a broken play that was salvaged for a 2-point conversion by Stephen Herrington, putting CrossFit up 8-0. Liberty Tax's first possession stalled, quickly handing the ball back to the surging CrossFit offense. CrossFit took full advantage, maintaining possession and scoring another touchdown on a pass to Sean Hickey. With a successful PAT, the score moved to 15-0, sending shockwaves through the stadium. Liberty Tax, refusing to break, found their rhythm on their second drive. Moving the ball consistently, they finally found the endzone with a touchdown pass to Tristan Deschamps. The windy conditions struck again, affecting the PAT attempt which failed, leaving the halftime score at a surprisingly close 15-6 in favor of CrossFit. Liberty Tax opened the second half with renewed energy, determined to erase the deficit. They executed a solid drive, mirroring their late first-half success, and scored their second consecutive touchdown on a pass to Andrew Pidgeon. This time, the PAT was good, closing the gap to a nail-biting 15-13. CrossFit responded immediately, driving the length of the field and converting crucial first downs before Sam Hutchingame secured his second touchdown of the game. PAT was also good, the scoreboard read 22-13. But the undefeated squad wouldn't quit. Liberty Tax answered with a quick drive, finding Tristan Deschamps for his second touchdown. With a successful PAT, the score was 22-20 heading into the final quarter. Deep into the fourth quarter, with tension palpable, CrossFit’s offense faced a critical moment. They struggled for a few downs before Stephen Herrington delivered back-to-back big plays, capped by a game-winning touchdown catch. The conversion failed, but the lead was secured, 28-20. Liberty Tax mounted a final, desperate drive. Moving the ball into field goal range, they managed to kick a successful field goal, closing the gap to 28-23. However, it was too little, too late. CrossFit took possession and secured a critical final first down, allowing them to run the clock out to zero. Against all expectations and overcoming the challenge of the undisputed regular season champions, CrossFit earned the ultimate prize. Congratulations to the 2025 Champions, including MVP Clark Veenstra, Offensive MVP Stephen Herrington, Defensive MVP Derek Micheaud, Kaelan Leroux, Joe Sunday, Devin Radley, Jeremy Latour, Tanner Smith, Grant Wilson, Jakob Loucks, Kevin Colliver, Sam Hutchingame, Jace Legue, Reeve Nicholson, Kyle Mac, Kyle Labelle, Sean Hickey.
