Cornwall Man's Flag Football :  Scott Coulter

In 1979, Scott Coulter moved to Cornwall and unknowingly embarked on what would become a decades-long journey in town. After completing grade 8 and attending GVSS, Scott pursued a career that started with 10 years as a paramedic, followed by over 28 years in the police service. But throughout his professional life, his love for flag football was a constant companion.

Scott joined the Cornwall Men’s Flag Football League in the 1990s, where he quickly made his presence known. His early years were spent playing for Huron Hockey, led by quarterback Frank Spagnolo. Though the team eventually folded, it marked just the beginning of Scott’s journey on the field. After Huron Hockey, Scott moved to O'Neil Printing, and then to Winners, a team he joined with the help of Marc Sauve. It was with Winners that Scott enjoyed some of his greatest successes, playing for years and winning five championships alongside Brian O'Neil and Steve McGillis. Together, they built a dominant team that became a mainstay in the league, creating both lasting friendships and legendary on-field performances.

Not content with simply playing for others, Scott decided to form his own team—Play it Again Sports. The team played for about five or six years but ultimately folded due to scheduling conflicts, as many of the players were shift workers. Unfortunately, Scott also tore his ACL during this period, forcing him to step away from the game for a time. However, Scott’s love for flag football couldn’t keep him off the field for long. Once recovered, he rejoined the league with Elco/Hype, where he played for another two to three years, adding a championship to his resume. When Elco/Hype folded, Scott found a new home with Jasmar/Budweiser, where he was part of three more championship-winning teams.

Now at age 58, with over 30 years of flag football under his belt, Scott is still an active player in the league. Although he acknowledges that his playing days may be coming to an end, he continues to enjoy every moment. “I probably don’t have many years left, but I still enjoy the game and look forward to another fun year with a great bunch of guys,” Scott says, reflecting on his long career. Scott’s story is one of dedication, perseverance, and passion. From his early days with Huron Hockey to his later success with Winners, Elco/Hype, and Jasmar/Budweiser, Scott has seen it all—the highs of championship victories and the challenges of personal setbacks. Through it all, his love for the game and the camaraderie of his teammates have kept him coming back, year after year.

For Scott Coulter, flag football has been more than just a sport; it has been a source of friendship, competition, and countless memories. As he prepares for another season, Scott continues to be an inspiration to both veterans and newcomers in the Cornwall Men’s Flag Football League. His journey serves as a reminder of what true passion for the game looks like, and there’s no doubt he’ll be leaving a lasting legacy on the field.
