Tournament Rules

Game rules: We will use CIF rules plus ten second back court violation. 13u/7th Grade Boys and older will use 29.5 regulation men’s basketball unless agreed upon by both teams to use the 28.5 basketball. All girls’ games will use 28.5 regulation woman’s basketball. Scoreboard/Score Table score is final. 
18 min running clock per half – The clock will stop in the last 2min of the 2nd half unless a team is up by 15 or more points in the second half the clock runs until the lead is less than 10 points.  

Free-throws: Teams will shoot two (2) shots at ten (10) team fouls.

Overtime – An overtime period will consist of one (1), two (2) minutes of running clock play with the clock stopping in the final one (1) minute. If the game is still tied, the 2nd over time is SUNDDEN DEATH and the first team to score wins.

Timeouts – Each team will have three (3) timeouts per game. Each timeout will be 30 seconds. One (1) additional time out will be granted per overtime period. Time outs DO NOT carry over into overtime. 

Warmups and half time or 2 minutes but may be limited due to time restraints. 

Tie Breaker System:

  1. Head-to-Head Play – The team that wins the head-to-head competition between the two teams will move on.
  2. Point System – A point differential system (among all the teams) will be used if three or more teams are tied. Teams will receive a maximum + or - 15 points. The team with the most positive points will be 1st place then 2nd place etc. If two teams are still tied, they would revert to the first tie breaker system or C
  3. Points Allowed   

Playing on more than one team - Players are allowed to play on two teams if they are in different divisions. High School Elite players cannot play on two teams.  The opposing coach must protest at the start of the game. (Exceptions to these rules may be allowed if arranged in advance with the tournament director)

Challenges – Challenges must be done before the game starts and cost $50.00. If you (the challenger) are correct, the team being challenged will be disqualified from the tournament and you will receive your $50.00 back. Once the challenge has been made, the proof of burden is on the challenged coach. If the challenged coach shows proof a school photo ID Report cards, medical card, or birth certificates, we will reward the challenged coach by giving him/her the $50.00 challenge fee. All protest/challenges MUST be done at the start of the game. (Exceptions to these rules may be allowed if a player is added to the game/roster after the game has started.)

Directors will do random checks also at no charge

Code of Conduct – All coaches are responsible for the behavior of their team, parents, and all bench personnel. There will be only one (1) coach allowed to stand on the sideline.  Conduct of players and coaches should be above reproach both on and off the court. Any misbehavior or misconduct, on or off the court, will be subject to individual and/or team disqualification from the tournament or shoot-out

2-3 Tournament directors on Site…. All protest will be heard by the Tournament Director(s) Prior to the Game Starting. All decisions made by the director are final.

2024-2025 AAU Boys' Basketball Eligibility Requirements

Updated on September 1, 2024, for the Sept 1, 2023-Aug. 31, 2025: AAU Basketball season.


AGE BASED COMPETITION RULES:

7 & Under 

An athlete can be no older than 7 on or before August 31, 2025. (Born on or after September 1, 2018)

8 & Under 

An athlete can be no older than 8 on or before August 31, 2025. (Born on or after September 1, 2017)

9 & Under

An athlete can be no older than 9 on or before August 31, 2025. (Born on or after September 1, 2016) 

10 & Under

An athlete can be no older than 10 on or before August 31, 2025. (Born on or after September 1, 2015)

11 & Under

An athlete can be no older than 11 on or before August 31, 2025. (Born on or after September 1, 2014) 

12 & Under

An athlete can be no older than 12 on or before August 31, 2025. (Born on or after September 1, 2013) 

13 & Under

An athlete can be no older than 13 on or before August 31, 2025. (Born on or after September 1, 2012) 

14 & Under

An athlete can be no older than 14 on or before August 31, 2025. (Born on or after September 1, 2011)


GRADE BASED COMPETITION RULES

2nd Grade 

An athlete must be in the 2nd grade or below as of September 1, 2024, and can be no older than 10 on or before August 31, 2025.

3rd Grade 

An athlete must be in the 3rd grade or below as of September 1, 2024, and can be no older than 11 on or before August 31, 2025.

4th Grade 

An athlete must be in the 4th grade or below as of September 1, 2024, and can be no older than 12 on or before August 31, 2025.

5th Grade 

An athlete must be in the 5th grade or below as of September 1, 2024, and can be no older than 13 on or before August 31, 2025.

6th Grade 

An athlete must be in the 6th grade or below as of September 1, 2024, and can be no older than 14 on or before August 31, 2025.

7th Grade 

An athlete must be in the 7th grade or below as of September 1, 2024, and can be no older than 15 on or before August 31, 2025.

8th Grade 

An athlete must be in the 8th grade or below as of September 1, 2024, and can be no older than 16 on or before August 31, 2025.
