How is the Senior softball game different than "normal" softball?
1.) Age requirement (see above),
2.) At home plate there is a Strike Mat (17" x 36"). Any legally pitched ball that hits the mat is a strike.
3.) The batter/runner cannot be thrown out as a force play at first base on a ball hit into the outfield.
4.) Outfielders must be positioned behind the outfield line which is 185' from home plate.
5.) Each team may score a maximum of five(5) runs each inning. The last inning, announced by the umpire, shall be unlimited runs.
6.) There is a second home plate for runners. All plays at the plate are "force plays". The fielder uses the traditional home plate, while the runner must touch the home plate that is in foul ground near the traditional home plate.
7.) For additional details, see the League Rules (under the Downloads section of this site).
How are teams determined?
Prior to each season, the Team Assignment Committee determines the roster for each team in the league. Preference is given to:
1.) Returning players from the prior summer season,
2.) Returning players from the prior fall ball season,
3.) New to the league players
* The Committee will try to honor requests for immediate family members to play on the same team.
What equipment does the League provide?
The League provides fields, umpires, balls, and t-shirts for each player.
What equipment must I provide/use?
Each player shall be responsible for his/her own pants/shorts, shoes (no metal cleats/spikes are allowed), glove, any desired protective equipment, and his/her bat.
When and where do you play?
We play on Monday nights on fields in Henrico County. The fields we are able to utilize may vary from season to season. See the Fields section of this site for the fields for the current/past seasons.
How much does it cost?
The fee to join the league is determined by the Board prior to each season. League fees for the upcoming season are listed on the registration form.
