THE HISTORY OF YOUR FOREST PARK HOCKEY LEAGUE

The Forest Park Senior Hockey League started as an idea by a small group of senior hockey players in 1971. These players were looking for a league that was not of a “blood and guts” nature. The league’s name was fitting…Olympia Senior Hockey League. A three month “let’s see if it works” experiment started in January and ran through March of 1971.  After a successful three-month trial, the league officially started in September of 1971.

In 1973 the league moved to the newly opened Cyr Arena in Forest Park. It was then that the league changed its name to the Forest Park Senior Hockey League. At one of the first organizational meetings a maxim was written for the league which still guides us today: The sole purpose of this hockey league is for recreation and exercise only.  This motto has served the league well for FORTY-EIGHT years. This league is now known as the Forest Park Hockey League.
