Family Friendly Soccer was started in 2000 by Hans and Rita Vandenbrink as an alternative to the busy, community soccer schedule. The league was created to be a more relaxed, family-oriented environment where both kids and adults of all ages could come together in one location to enjoy the sport of soccer. Since its inception, Family Friendly has seen significant growth, with over 300 kids and 75 adults participating across five different age groups.
As a non-profit organization, Family Friendly Soccer relies on the dedication and commitment of its volunteers and staff to ensure the league runs smoothly. Over the years, the administration of the league has changed hands, with individuals like Randy Vankooten, Sonya Hassan, Trish Vandermeer, and Karen Vandermeer all playing important roles in keeping the league running.
In 2020, the league faced its biggest challenge yet with the outbreak of Covid-19 forcing the cancellation of the season. Despite this setback, the families involved in Family Friendly Soccer came together to make a generous donation to the Mustard Seed, showing their commitment to not only the league but also to the community at large.
Family Friendly Soccer would not be possible without the dedication of coaches, referees, and all those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make the league a success. It is through the collective efforts of everyone involved that Family Friendly Soccer continues to thrive and provide a fun and enjoyable soccer experience for families in the community.
