RULES AND REGULATIONS (GUIDELINES)
- All players must be 4 years old before May 1st. (Effective 2018)
- Coaches must remember that this is an INSTRUCTIONAL LEAGUE. Teams within the program should be balanced according to player age.
- Coaches need to remember that these are impressionable boys and girls. ABSOLUTELY NO UNNECESSARY ROUGHNESS OR VULGAR LANGUAGE WILL BE TOLERATED from any participant or spectator of the game.
- Coaches have a responsibility to teach ALL players the fundamentals of baseball as well as sportsmanship, teamwork, and fair play. The throwing of equipment (bats, helmets, and mitts) will not be tolerated. This includes coaches! A batter accidentally throwing a bat receives a warning the first time. If the same batter throws their bat again in the game, they will be called out. A player intentionally throwing a bat, helmet, or mitt in disgust will be ejected from the game.
- Players should be taught baseball safety - never throw the ball to someone who is not looking and never swing the bat until they have checked to make sure no one will be hit with the bat. Do not throw the bat after hitting the ball. Please pay special attention to safety or it may be a child on your team that gets hit in the head with a bat or ball.
- Play as many innings as you can but no inning should start after 60 minutes of play.
- All hitters will hit off a batting tee. **As the season progresses or after you get in a few innings you could experiment with coach pitch for no more than 3 pitches, then place the ball on a tee.
- Establish your batting order prior to each game.
- The full roster will bat each inning. Start each inning with a different person in the batting order (for example, the 1st inning start with batting position #1, 2nd inning #2, 3rd inning #3, etc.) but everyone on the roster hits every inning.
- Leading off base is not allowed. Base runners must remain in contact with the base until the ball is hit.
- No extra bases for overthrows.
- Bases will be set at 50 feet in this division.
- Each team will place someone at the pitcher’s spot, however we will not use a catcher.
- If a runner is tagged or thrown out, we will acknowledge the out but the runner will stay on base.
- Once the batter hits the ball they will advance to 1st base. The batter will not advance past 1st, even though the defensive team may or may not be in control of the ball. Runners that were already on a base, will only advance one base.
- On the last batter of the inning only, all runners will advance through the bases, until they get to home. Effectively, having the last batter hit a “grand slam”. (03/2016) (follow rule 9 to ensure a new player hits the “grand slam” every inning)
17) Any injury, that warrants a coach's immediate attention, WILL stop play.
- The offensive team may have coaches at home, first and third bases. The defensive team may have coaches in the field. Just remember to not interfere and let the kids play.
19) Score will not be kept.
