What are the Little League Age brackets?

Little League has chosen for baseball to align kids ages around a September to August Calendar span to ensure kids particiapting at the Little League World Series are the appropriate age for their respective division.  This differs from other sports in the Calgay area - however as a Little League Chartered Association we are required to follow the age brackets as they are established in the Little League Rule book

Those age brackets are as follows:

What are the Divisions?

T-Ball LL Ages 4-6*

Young players are introduced to the game of baseball. They learn, develop and practice fundamental baseball skills at an early age to receive maximum enjoyment from the experience.  Emphasis is placed on participation and enjoying their first baseball experience.

Rookie Ball LL ages 7-8*

Players continue to develop their skills and learn the rules of baseball. Emphasis is placed upon hitting, base running, fielding/ throwing and teamwork. Both Offensive and Defensive fundamental are stressed.

American League and Minors LL ages 9-10*

Players are evaluated for the first time in Majors.  Player pitching is introduced, and all players are encouraged to try pitching. Umpires in this division allow a fairly liberal strike zone. The object of the game is to get the ball hit into play as often as possible. Players are encouraged to play all positions throughout the season. This is the first age group where All-Star teams can continue with Tournament play after the season ends.

National League and Majors LL ages 11-12*

Players are drafted based on their ability and Players development to either a Majors or or a National League team. The number of teams vary year to year depending on enrollment. Continuous batting orders are mandatory at this level and players are encouraged to play all positions throughout the season. All-Star teams can continue with tournament play after the season ends.

*NOTE - Continuing for the 2024 Season you will be required to determine in advance if you wish to Evaluate for Majors or Nationals.  The Majors Registration will close in early February, with evaluations in Mid February.  Anyone who does not make a Majors team will be moved into the Nationals Division.

Intermediate LL Ages 13*

Depending on Registration numbers and skill levels as determined during Evaluations, Centennial Little League may decide to form Intermediate Level Teams.  The Intermediate Level plays on a Majors Size diamond (200 Ft Fences) with a 70 Foot Base Path and an 50' Pitching Mound.

Juniors LL Ages 13-14*

In Juniors, players are evaluated for Tier 1 and Tier 2 teams based on their ability and development. Leading off is introduced and diamond sizes and rules are in line with the rules of baseball. All-Star teams can continue with Tournament play after the season ends.

Juniors AAA 13-14*

Juniors AAA Teams are formed with kids from Little League Baseball Alberta District 3.  Registration will close for this opportunity in early February, with Early February Evaluations.  This team will begin practicing in February (indoors) and will play games from May through the August Long Weekend.  This team is on the path to participate in the Little League Junior World Series Tournament Path.  Games will be played across Alberta.

Seniors LL Ages 15-16*

Senior players are evaluated for Tier 1 and Tier 2 teams based on their ability and development. Diamond sizes and rules are in line with the rules of baseball. Team atmosphere and dynamics are geared toward older players with refinement of baseball fundamental and introduction of advanced techniques and strategies. All-Star teams can continue with Tournament play after the season ends.
