SPRING SEASON

The following is a brief description of the various levels. Please see the PARENT INFO tab for more information on schedules and the age chart.

Please see the EQUIPMENT tab for information on required equipment for each age group.

T-BALL DIVISION—AGE 4, 5 & 6 YRS

T-ball is a fun introduction to baseball, designed to generate fast-paced action, provide recreation and exercise, create enthusiasm, and encourage children to continue to be involved in sports. T-ball teaches all five basic fundamentals of baseball—hitting, throwing, catching, running, and fielding—in a non-competitive environment. The purpose is for players to learn fundamental movement skills in a team environment and have fun!

Players hit off a tee and run to a single base while players attempt to field the ball prior to the batter reaching the base. No outs are recorded, and no score is kept.

COACH PITCH DIVISION - AGES 7 & 8 YRS

Coach Pitch is a beginning level of ball designed for young ball players. The basic fundamentals of the game, rules, hitting, throwing, catching, base running, and team play are introduced at this level. Coaches throw a designated number of pitches to their own players. If the player is unable to hit after the designated number of pitches, players can then hit off the tee.

MINORS DIVISION—AGES 9 & 10 YRS
At the minor league level, player pitching and base stealing are introduced. All basic Little League rules will apply with some slight modifications to enhance player development. In addition to basic fundamentals and team play, the focus of this division will be on starting to develop young pitchers and catchers. Teams in this division field 9 players each inning, and all players are in the batting lineup. All players can expect equal playing time. This is the first level at which we have umpires to call balls and strikes, as well as outs.

All players must attend evaluation sessions. These players will compete in an interlock schedule against other teams from District 3. The purpose of the evaluations is to create teams of equal strength. Evaluations are mandatory at this level.

MAJORS/NATIONAL DIVISION—AGES 11 & 12 YRS
The Majors division is the top level of competition for this age group. These players will compete in an interlock schedule against other teams from District 3.  Full commitment is expected, and full commitment will include attendance at 3-5 practices/games per week.

JUNIOR DIVISION - AGE 13 & 14 YRS
In this division, players play on a regulation baseball field with 80 foot bases and a pitching distance of 54 feet. Teams will compete in an interlock schedule against other teams within District 3. Home games and practices are held at Jack James High School

SENIOR DIVISION - AGES 15 & 16 YRS
In this division, players play on a regulation baseball field with 90 foot bases and a pitching distance of 60 feet. Games are played throughout District 3 with home games and practices held at Forest Lawn Library/Lion's Park

Summer ball season

SummerBall is "post-season" competitive baseball.  The Summer Ball program is organized at a high level by Little League Alberta and is a tournament-style program bringing teams together from Little League Associations across Alberta and Saskatchewan. Summer Ball usually begins in late June and runs through the August long weekend.  It is comprised of 6 weeks of regular season and then a championship tournament held on the August long weekend.  Teams are expected to play a minimum of 4 weekends of the regular season (with 4 games per weekend).  Tournaments are played across Alberta and Saskatchewan, and travel is a requirement of the Summer Ball program, and those costs are additional to the Summer Ball fees.

We aim to have a team at each division of play. If you are interested, please look for communication to come in May.

Fall Ball Season

GENERAL INFORMATION
District 3 handles the Fall Baseball Registration. Communication will be sent out once registration is open (approx. late July or early August).

Cal East works with our fellow District 3 Associations (Foothills, Centennial, Bow Ridge, Northwest) to provide a Fall Ball season. Depending on participation levels from various associations (and on a division-by-division basis), teams will generally be made up of a mix of players from across our District, not just Cal East. This also means that practices and games could be at diamonds used by other associations.

SEASON DATES
The season will begin after the Labour Day weekend, and the first set of games will start during the first weekend in September and run each weekend until October 15th, weather permitting. Please note there will be NO REFUNDS provided if Mother Nature cuts the season short. Each team will run 1 practice per week (picked by the coach) and have up to 2 games each weekend (Saturday & Sunday). More information on practice and game times will be provided once it becomes available, as we will be coordinating with the other associations. This information is not available until late August, once teams have been selected.

REGISTRATION
District 3 handles the Fall Baseball Registration (District 3 website). Communication will be sent out once registration is open. Registrations will not be accepted after the registration close date. A waitlist will be provided; however, there are no guarantees that we can accommodate anyone on the waitlist.

*Please Note - Divisions may be closed early as teams are filled.
