2026 Bell warriors spring flag football

Director of Flag Football, Rod Moors, rodmoors12@gmail.com

The regular season of games begins on Saturday May 23 and finish up on Sunday June 21. The Open (boys) divisions of OU10, OU12, and OU14 play on Saturdays. All of the girls divisions (GU12, GU14, GU16, GU20) and  OU16 (boys)  play on Sundays.  With our ever growing OU16 division of the past years we fully expect to offer OU19 this year (it will play on Sundays). Teams play 2 games (2 hours total) on each game day. Generally the games are back to back, sometimes 2 games in a 3 hour window.

Divisions are determined by birth year not age when playing. OU10 (2017 and younger), U12  and GU12 (2015, 2016), U14 and GU14 (2013, 2014), U16 and GU16 (2011, 2012), OU19 (2008-2010), GU20 (2007-2010). Registration opens around Februrary 1st, if not sooner, for all participating clubs. Check out their websites for winter programs and when spring sessions begin.

Click here for the NCAFA flag site. It has general information for all about the timeline of the 2026 flag season. It has information on a winter flag football program for the Ottawa region as well as a fall flag program that was quite successful in its first year of operation.

Loads of info about the NCAFA/Ottawa Flag scene. (Flag Football rules, schedule, coaching resources, tournament info, clinics and much more). Check it out!

Bell Warriors Spring Flag Specifics
General practices begin in early April at the Nepean Sportsplex (outdoors, back turf field). Sessions are informal on Saturdays and Sundays (9am - 1 pm). Early age groups are first, older age groups are later. Sessions for each age group are 75-90 minutes. A specific time line is provided as we get closer to April.  Instruction at this time is focussed on skills and learning the game of flag football. Coaches and experienced players are very welcoming and helpful to new flag players. In mid-May practices shift from the Nepean Sportsplex to Twin Elm Rugby Park (grass). In general practices are on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Sometimes practices are shifted to Tuesday, Wednesday or Wednesday, Thursday depending on coach, player availability. See first paragraph above for NCAFA game days for each division.

On turf football cleats are best, soccer cleats are good, running shoes are acceptable. On grass the same except that running shoes are poor. Mouthguards during NCAFA games are mandatory and  recommended for practices. Bell provides mouthguards free of charge. Bell provides flag belts to all players free of charge. This year players will keep their flag belts. Please learn to adjust the belt for a perfect fit and learn how to take care of your flag belt. Referees can remove players from a game until the belt is in proper condition and worn properly. It is advised that a player have a football bag that can hold cleats, mouthguard, flag belt, water bottle and uniform to ensure that he or she is never missing anything for a practice or game.

Bell Warriors Flag has a new logo and is going with a new uniform (shirt and shorts) this year. Every player will need to purchase the uniform. There will be opportunities to size the uniform beginning in February. When you order a uniform the payment of $70 is non-refundable. A new player might want to purchase an unwanted uniform (and not wait) and I would facilitate that process. The uniform fee is not part of registration fee and will be paid seperately when the uniform is ordered (email transfer preferred).

Bell Warriors flag registration fees are $180. Payment by credit card, email transfer or cash is allowed. Cash is the least preferred option. Remember there is an option to pay by credit card later which can be utilized. Refunds are available on the flag fees until the end of April. During the first two weeks of May, 75% refund. Last two weeks or May, 50%. No refunds in June.

Bell Warriors Flag Football would like to do some fundraising this year. The first method is to utilize the Football Ontario 50/50 draw in the spring. The second method would be to do some trivia nights in the Twin Elm bar and reception area. If anyone would like to assist in this activity it would be much appreciated.

This is our second year at Twin Elm Rugby Park and it has been wonderful. The fields are great and we had a wonderful year end party in and around the main building. The Bell flag program hopes to strengthen our relationship every year going forward.
