**Welcome Warrior and Our New Cheer Team: The Lady Warriors!**

We’re excited to introduce two amazing additions to our community this year! First up, meet Warrior, our new school dog. This friendly pup is here to bring joy and companionship to students and staff alike. You’ll often find him roaming the halls, wagging his tail and spreading smiles!

In addition, we proudly welcome our new cheer team, the Lady Warriors! These talented athletes are ready to energize our events and support our teams with their enthusiasm and spirit. Let’s cheer them on as they bring their passion and creativity to the sidelines!

Cultivate a culture of excellence through empowering Warriors for victory

Athletics is a public representation of Western High School. In many cases, the games fans attend, the scores, stats, and articles in the paper are the first and most prevalent memory the public has of what it means to be a Warrior. As a result, the mission of Western High School rings especially true when applied to the student-athlete. Student-athletes represent Western High School with performance in the classroom and in public as members of our athletic teams. This commitment requires more time from student-athletes than other student body members and comes with higher expectations for performance both on the field of competition and in the classroom. It is our belief that interscholastic athletics complements our strong academic programs and assists in providing Western High School students with a well-rounded education. For some, it is hard to put in the time and effort that is required for success as a student-athlete, and it is often too demanding for the less dedicated to have much enjoyment. Student-athletes who are able to personify the Warrior values of Realizing their courage, Overcoming obstacles through perseverance, and a Relentless pursuit of success, will start to realize their greater potential. The knowledge gained of oneself and the effects of proper training of the body, mind, and soul can only have a positive influence on the participant. The dedication, discipline, sacrifice, and cooperation required from a student-athlete builds character and teaches values that enable students to be happy, become better citizens, and instill confidence and poise.

In high school athletics, the goal for all Warriors is to grow as student-athletes and individuals. Western Athletics believes that real success is not measured by the number of wins achieved or records set, but by each student-athlete’s private battle to make themselves the very best they can be. The competition within, the struggle to improve, if only for a second or an inch, is what being part of Warrior Athletics is all about. Setting your goals and working to reach them is where the true competition and challenge lie, and ultimately, the greatest reward. We are a team of individuals striving for self-improvement. Yet, our spirits soar with a teammate’s personal triumph because we know, from our own inner battle, what it took to achieve that feat.

The goal as coaches and participants is to develop the skills, techniques, abilities, and fitness to the highest level we can, simply to be the best we can be. If we improve ourselves and become the competitors we are capable of becoming, then we have achieved our goal no matter what place we take. Only when we have every team member striving to reach his/her best will we have success as individuals and a team. When the team wins, everyone wins – athletes, coaches, family, friends, school, and community all share in the success. Our goal, then, is to make all involved in the program proud of our efforts, but especially to make ourselves proud of our own efforts.
