When does the tackle season run?
Tackle football starts mid July with player assessments. July is an opportunity for coaches to assess players' skills and strengths, and in some cases, introduce players to different positions.
Rosters are finalized by the beginning of August, just before the start of the regular NCAFA Season. In some cases, coaches may be required to release players to stay within the maximum number of players on a roster.
The regular season runs from mid-August until mid-October. Playoffs typically run until the first or second weekend of Novermber
Can I sign up if I have never played tackle before?
Absolutely! No matter which age group, all teams will consist of a mix of experienced and new players. Coaches are there to help you along the way. If you have questions please don't hesitate to talk to one of your coaches or your manager. Everyone is there to make sure you stay safe and have fun.
Are there tryouts?
Tackle football starts mid July with player assessments. July is an opportunity for coaches to assess players' skills and strengths, and in some cases, introduce players to different positions. There are situations where not all players will continue past the assessment phase and make it onto the final team roster.
Do your coaches have training?
All of our coaches are volunteers with training. The GS Raiders supports our volunteer coaches by ensuring they complete the necessary certifications set by Football Ontario, and participate in mandatory league orientation meetings. All volunteers are expected to adhere to the mandates of the GS Raiders football club, NCAFA, and Football Ontario and have recently completed a police records check.
How can I help?
The Raiders are run entirely by volunteers and your help is greatly appreciated. If you are interested in helping out, please see the volunteer page and/or email admin@gsraidersfootball.ca. Volunteering with community sports requires skills that you typically find in a variety of personal and professional settings.
