The first chapter has officially been written. The Kingston Grenadiers U12 team wrapped up its inaugural season in the Ontario Fall Football League with plenty to be proud of, finishing the regular season with an impressive 5-2 record while helping establish a strong foundation for the future of the program.
For a team entering its first OFFL season, there were plenty of unknowns. New opponents. New challenges. New opportunities. Week after week, the young Grenadiers competed, learned and grew together, quickly proving they belonged. Their 5-2 regular-season record earned Kingston second place and the opportunity to host an Eastern Quarter-Final at Richardson Stadium, another milestone in a season filled with firsts.
But some of the team's most meaningful accomplishments happened away from the scoreboard! One of the highlights of the season was the team's “Harvest Huddle”, an initiative that brought the Grenadiers together around something bigger than football. It was an opportunity for our young athletes and Grenadiers families to recognize the importance of giving back to the community that supports them.
For a U12 program, those lessons matter just as much as anything taught on the football field. Football provides an opportunity to develop athletes, but it also helps develop teammates, leaders and young people who understand the importance of community. That is exactly the kind of culture the Grenadiers want to continue building.
This season is never going to be measured solely by wins and losses. It was about creating something new, it was about young players learning what it means to compete together, coaches helping them develop their skills and confidence, families filling the sidelines, volunteers making game days possible and an entire group representing the Grenadiers with pride. The 5-2 record will forever be part of the history of this inaugural team. So too will the friendships, lessons, memorable plays, long drives down the 401, practices, celebrations and challenges that helped shape the season.
Most importantly, this group became the first U12 Grenadiers team to take the field in the fall. Every Grenadier fall program who follows will be building on the foundation they established.
While the season ultimately came to an end in the Eastern Quarter-Final against Etobicoke, one playoff result cannot define what this group accomplished. They competed, they grew, they gave back and they helped open the door for the next generation of Grenadiers football.
To our players, coaches, team managers, staff, volunteers, parents and families: thank you for believing in this program and helping make our inaugural season one to remember.
Go Gens!
