How long is the club volleyball season?

The youth club volleyball season in Alberta runs from December-May. For Volleyball Alberta's 2024 Indoor Tournament Schedule, click here.

How often do teams practice/play?

Our teams will typically practice twice a week. Additional group activities, exhibition games and/or training may also be scheduled in advance. Teams will attend 4+ tournaments starting in Jan/Feb, which will be held in the Edmonton area, Red Deer or Calgary area. At these tournaments, they will compete against teams from all over the province. For Volleyball Alberta's 2024 Indoor Tournament Schedule, click here. Detailed schedules will be kept up-to-date in the Teamlinkt app once teams are finalized.

Where/when are practices?

Practices will generally be held in Beaumont at one of the local schools. There may be a handful of practices held on the south side of Edmonton, depending on school availability. Practices will be held on weekday evenings after 6 pm and are typically 1.5-2 hours long.

How much does it cost to play?

Our fees range from $1200-1500, depending on the age group. Fees include all team apparel (jerseys, shorts, warm-up shirt, hoodie, pants, etc.) as well as all court time, tournament fees, coach honorariums and training costs. Our fees do not include travel costs (hotels, food, etc.), nor do they include Volleyball Canada Nationals. Payment plans may be discussed with our director upon signing with a team. We also offer support in accessing funding via KidSport and JumpStart and private sponsorship. We understand that times are tough for many families and want to support in any way that we can. Please contact us if you are in need of financial assistance.

How do the tournaments work? What can we expect?

All Volleyball Alberta tournaments follow the same format; teams can expect to play 6-8 matches throughout the weekend. Games begin early Saturday morning and finish sometime in the afternoon on Sunday. The first 3 matches are scheduled in advance and shared 2-3 weeks before the tournament; the rest of the matches depend on the results from the first three. On the Saturday, teams will typically play 3 "pool play" matches, followed by a "crossover match". You can expect to be at the gym all day on Saturday, anywhere from 7 am to 7 pm. Depending on the results from Saturday, each team will then play 2-4 matches on Sunday, which will determine their overall placement in the tournament. Teams can move up or down a division between tournaments, depending on their results.

Do players keep their jerseys/apparel?

Yes, players get to keep all their swag! Everything is custom ordered at the beginning of the season and will include last names and jersey numbers.

Can family members purchase Valor apparel?

Absolutely! A variety of apparel options will be shared with families sometime in December/January.

Will all teams be attending the Volleyball Canada Nationals?

The decision to attend Nationals will be made on a team level. Edmonton will be hosting the 2024 VC Nationals, so it is highly likely that our teams will be attending. Fundraising will be required to cover the cost of Nationals.

Are there any volunteer requirements?

For the season to run smoothly, we do require some parent support. This allows our coaches to focus on what they do best: coaching! There will be a list of volunteer roles that will need to be filled for each team, including but not limited to:
- scorekeeping
- posting game updates on the app
- recording & uploading game footage
- coordinating team lunches/dinners at tournaments
- planning team building events/activities
- coordinating fundraisers
(If you are interested in filling any of these roles for your son's team, please let us know.)

Are there any fundraising requirements?

Fundraising decisions will be made by each team individually. A team may choose to fundraise in order to pay for Nationals, extra tournaments, backpacks, water bottles, team-building activities, etc. Discussions surrounding fundraising will be held in December/January.

What are Valor Volleyball Club's policies and code of conduct?

Our club policies are adopted directly from Volleyball Alberta, as a member in good standing of the organization.
Our Code of Conduct & Ethics is adopted and implemented under Volleyball Canada.
