Calgary Raiders combined an explosive opening inning with a dominant performance from Jordan Asselin to shut out Calgary Bandits 11-0 on Friday at Diamond 2.

The Raiders seized control immediately, sending six runs across in the bottom of the first. Tony Chiarot worked a run-scoring walk, Dixon Tarr delivered an RBI single, and Calgary continued applying pressure with disciplined at-bats and aggressive baserunning.

The lead grew to 9-0 in the second inning as Joey Brunel and Matt Walton supplied run-scoring singles during another three-run rally. The Raiders added two more runs before the game was over to complete the commanding victory.

Asselin was overpowering in the circle, recording double-digit strikeouts without issuing a walk. The right-hander kept the Bandits off the scoreboard throughout his outing and never allowed their offence to establish any momentum.

Calgary’s lineup received contributions from throughout the order. Dwayne Romanchuk, Cam Cote, Jamie Scholten, Brunel, Chiarot, Tarr, Walton and Asselin were among those collecting hits, while the Raiders also demonstrated patience by drawing eight walks.

Once aboard, the Raiders remained aggressive and repeatedly pressured the Bandits’ defence on the basepaths.

The Bandits will look to rebound Saturday against the Calgary Pirates, while the Raiders will carry their momentum into a matchup with the Calgary Jays.
