2026 Capital Division
The following information is intended to answer most questions and provide the information you need to start playing baseball this year.
Who am I and what is my role?
My name is Jim Jasiewicz. My e-mail is Jimjazz@hotmail.com and my cell is 518-253-1913.
I volunteer to organize the Capital Division and provide a place for those looking for an opportunity to start playing baseball again or to just play more baseball.
Are there other levels of input or assistance opportunities available? Yes.
I will be looking for a few people to step up assist with;
- team lineups during the week,
- game day operations of facilitating pregame warm-ups, keeping scorebooks (if anyone has knowledge & experience with gamechanger I am looking for you),
- game day captains,
- website assistance.
We also need people to step up when volunteers have a conflict and cannot make it to ensure we don’t have to cancel games.
If interested in volunteering, don't be shy. PLEASE let me know. There are always opportunities to help make things better.
What is the Capital Division all about?
The Capital District Men’s Senior Baseball League (CDMSBL) consists of multiple age group divisions. The Capital Division is just one of those divisions with players from various age groups.
The way the Capital Division is run, how it operates, and goals continually change in an effort to meet the changing dynamics and make-up of the players in the division.
The division currently consists of 2 teams, The Capital City Blues and the Albany Reds, with player rosters that could change each week to provide balanced teams and competitive games. As interest increases the number of teams could increase and team rosters could be more firmly established.
The division provides an opportunity for a diverse group of players in age and ability. Some players have no other opportunities to play, some are trying to get reacclimated to the game due to long layoffs or recovery from injury, some just want more at bats and playing time, some are using it as a steppingstone to get into another division, some want to tune up for tournaments, some want to extend their season and others just want to play as much as possible. The division continues to change to try to accommodate everyone involved in meeting their playing goals and continuing to offer reasonable-cost organized baseball.
Players that came into the league through the Capital Division have found their way into about every other division in the CDMSBL by the following season. This can take some time and is not guaranteed. If this is your goal, talk to me in person. Ultimately it is up to the General Managers of teams as to how they fill their rosters, but I am happy to try to point you in the right.
This Capital Division is open to multiple age groups and skill levels, and teams are balanced with a goal to have a place for everybody to play. With all this in mind, the objective is to provide organized quality baseball that supports & encourages players, offers multiple at bats, flexibility to play different positions in the field, while understanding we are all human. In baseball, success in batting is considered great when one gets a base hit more than over 30% of the time. We strive to do our best and be competitive, but we don’t want to lose sight of the fact that we are playing organized baseball for the love of the game. Comradery & friendships can go a long way in improving quality of life.
When and where do we play ball?
We plan to play most of our games on Sundays in the late afternoon at approximately 430 PM at the Town of New Scotland Park baseball field (address below). We may also play some games at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Green Island (address below). The times could get a little later in the summer and fall back a little earlier in the fall. The goal is to play about 15 games through the summer.
We are also hoping to get a game or two at the A Diamond in Schenectady’s Central Park at some point in the season.
Last season we had the opportunity to play a game in Cooperstown at Doubleday Field, and we are hoping to play there again this year.
The appetite for baseball grows in the late summer and baseball in the fall is likely, especially after divisional playoffs with the preparation for fall & winter tournaments.
Traditionally we do not play Mother’s Day or the weekends of Memorial Day, Father’s Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day.
We are always open to other field options. If anybody has a lead on a field, let’s talk.
What does it cost to play and what do players need to get on their own?
The league provides fields, umps, jerseys, scorebooks and baseballs through money collected from players at the beginning of the season and throughout the year.
There are a few components to the cost, registration, 2 jerseys, and game fees. At some point we might do hats.
We are accepting full-season registrations. If you have the two jerseys from a previous year, the fee is $125 and you will not pay per game. Otherwise, the full-season registration is $175 to include two jerseys and you will not pay per game.
The next option is to pay by the game. This also includes a registration fee of $50 and a per game cost of $10 cash at each game plus $50 for two jerseys, if you do not have them from a previous year. Full season commits will get guaranteed or the bulk of playing time when we have full rosters.
If you are someone that likely plays only a game or two or the financial commitment is burdensome, we can talk about options.
We have more interest this year than last year and the hope is that we can have established teams and possible expansion.
Players are expected to have a batting helmet, wood bat(s), baseball pants (preferably gray), baseball cap, and the league supplied red jersey and blue jersey. I do have a few extra wooden bats, batting helmets, and some catcher gear available for community use. Please do not use another player’s bat without getting their express permission in advance. I also have some baseball pants you can have if they are your size.
How Can payments be made?

If you decide you want to commit for the season OR if you are just thinking of playing a few games, you must complete the registration on-line for the Capital Division
CD-MSBL has registration, via an On-Line Form. It takes about 5 minutes.
You must complete the CDMSBL Registration & Waiver form for the Capital Division even if you have completed it in the past or if you play for more than one division and already completed a form for that division. You must complete one for each team or division in which you play.
To complete:
1) Go to cdmsbl.com
2) From Tool Bar on Home Page, select "Rules" or “Forms”
3) Use QR code, or click on 2025 CDMSBL Waiver & Release, directly beneath the QR code.
4) Complete form as instructed.
e.g. Capital Division
If you play for another team in the CDMSBL, you must submit a from for each team & division you are will be playing on. We currently do not have specific teams in the Capital Division.
5) When you submit the smart waiver, you will receive a verification email for your electronic signature.
You will need to access your email to confirm your electronic signature through that email.
6) You will receive an e-mail confirmation that you successfully completed your form, and it was accepted. Keep this for your records as it indicates that the submission is finalized.
NOTE: Download the confirmation within 72 hours as the link expires in 3 days.
After I have completed registration, what next?
Once you have registered and paid, this is the most important part.
1. Send me an email to jimjazz@hotmail.com
2. forwarding you registration confirmation,
3. advise me of your method of payment,
4. include your age at your 2026 birthday,
5. Jersey size,
6. desired number(s) NOTE many numbers are used, so please provide a few options,
7. positions you can play and
8. cellular number for text.
Getting commitments and info above helps to ensure enough players for a couple teams, secures paid umps, and impacts how smoothly the season rolls out. You can play once you have registered and responded to me with the requested info 1-8 above. If your jerseys are on order but not in yet, you can still play. But you will need one red and one blue jersey of any kind until yours comes in.
If you played in the Capital Division in the past, you know we work hard to ensure to do our best to ensure to provide organized, balanced, competitive, low pressure & fun baseball for everybody. I am approachable and love playing baseball and want to do my best to offer you the same opportunity at whatever level you are at.
What if you no longer want to get emails from the Capital Division?
Just send an email to jimjazz@hotmail.com and let me know and I will simply remove you from the email distribution list.

How are teams determined each week and how do I know what team I am on?
Emails are scheduled to go out early in the week before the next game to get player confirmations for the upcoming game.
There may be subsequent emails to encourage participation.
As soon as we have enough for a game, an umpire will be sought, and a confirmation email will be sent to let everybody know that the "Game is on" and if possible which team they are on.
We want to know by Friday at the latest, so team rosters can be set up in advance and there is an opportunity to establish teams
Setting up teams on game day is a hassle.
We know life happens, but it is very important that if you commit you make every reasonable effort to come and play. Your teammates are counting on you and it helps us plan teams and get started on time.
(Check your Junk or Spam folders as this is a large email list and may be directed there at times).
To everybody on the email list, in general please respond directly to me by selecting "Reply" and NOT "Reply All". There are a few people that volunteered to help with the weekly game scheduling that you could be directed to include in your reply. If so, you will be directed to do so in that email.
On Game Day, it is best to reach me by call or text at 518-253-1913. I generally do not have access to my email on Sunday.
Thank you and have a great season
Jim Jaz
