Welcome to the Canadian League™
Background:
We are Absolutely Amazing Information, a Canadian company responsible for writing several world atlases and encyclopedias. We are extraordinarily patriotic and very passionate about ice hockey, after doing extensive research for an encyclopedia about sports we realized that most nations (large and small) around the world have professional sports leagues to support their national sports, and in a lot of cases these domestic leagues generate millions of income for their countries.
For Example...
Italy has four professional water polo leagues (Seria A1, Serie A2, Serie B, Serie C) with over 140 teams in total...while Hungary has the very successful Országos Bajnokság water polo league, and Serbia has the very successful Serbian Handball Super League.
Even the Serbian handball league generates more profit than Canada's professional hockey league...think about that.
Because Canada has NO domestic hockey league, all of our leagues are owned by Americans.
Canada is one of the top ten wealthiest nations on the planet – there are 195 nations – Canada is ranked 9th in GDP...yet Canada STILL has no domestic professional hockey league?
The people in charge...the gatekeepers of hockey in Canada have let Canadians down. Those in charge have failed us. It is up to Canadian citizens to make the change they want to see in our country...so that is our mission.
Give Canadians a domestic professional hockey league to cheer for that caters to Canadian markets – especially those Canadian markets without access to professional hockey – a league that represents Canadians – represents Canadian cities – and gives back to Canadians instead of funnelling Canadian profits into the hands of uncaring Americans.
Every major nation on Earth already has a domestic sports league to support their national sport.
Canada is LITERALLY the only major nation that has no league for their national sports.
The NHL is American, and NLL box lacrosse, Canada's national summer sport, is also American....
Canada's national sports are in control of American corporations...and when you mention this to the gatekeepers in power in Canada, they seemingly DO NOT CARE...The lack of response by those in charge is eye opening...nobody is coming to save Canadian institutions...it is up to us to protect our country.
It is up to Canadians to work together, and start taking care of one another – no matter what province or territory you are from – we are stronger together.
Canada has domestic leagues for soccer (CPL) and for basketball (CEBL) – but for some reason no domestic men's hockey league...the amount of money that can potentially be made by implementing a professional hockey league in Canada that caters to markets with no access to professional hockey is staggeringly huge.
Especially at a time like now, when Canadian patriotism has never been higher, and the exploitation of Canadian hockey revenue (by the NHL, AHL, and ECHL) has never been more prominent. Canada is looking to reduce dependency on America, and moving forward this proposal will give Canada that ability. This is the time to bring attention to the lack of access to Canadian heritage and the lack of access to our national sport. When a third of Canada's largest cities have no access to professional hockey, and nothing is being done to reduce our dependence on America for our national sport we have a serious problem.
There is a lot of money to be made that we can put back into our communities, while simultaneously promoting Canadian heritage. This proposal will reduce our dependence on American corporations (NHL, AHL, ECHL, PWHL), while increasing Canadian resilience, and it will bring our heritage (professional ice hockey) back into the hands of Canadian ownership. This will benefit Canada, benefit our cities, generate profit, and ultimately benefit provinces with no access to our culture. With the ultimate end goal of cementing this league as an integral, indispensable, institution in these markets that currently have no access to professional hockey.
Our Mission:
It is time to start putting Canada first – Canadian citizens first – Canadian jobs first – Canadian markets first – and Canadian brands first.
- As of March 1 2026, 5 out of the 10 provinces in Canada have no access to professional hockey
[Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI, and Newfoundland and Labrador]
- As of March 1 2026, 3 out of the 10 largest cities in Canada have no access to professional hockey
[Quebec City, Hamilton, and Mississauga]
- As of March 1 2026, the following major Canadian cities: Regina, Saskatoon, Victoria, Halifax, Moncton, St. John's, Quebec City, Hamilton, Mississauga, Windsor, London, Niagara-St. Catharines, Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo, Oshawa all have no access to professional men's hockey (just to name a few - there are many more markets without access to professional hockey in Canada)
- the NHL is based out of New York, the AHL is based out of Massachusetts, the ECHL is based out of New Jersey, and the PWHL is based out of Delaware...they are all American
[102 teams in those four leagues....but only 9 Canadian markets are represented]
- Canada has 40.1 million people, and has a top 10 GDP on the planet
[small nations even have sports leagues to support their national sports...from our research some SMALL NATIONS HAVE TWO OR THREE LEAGUES PER SPORT...meanwhile Canada doesn't even have ONE PROFESSIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE based out of Canada..beyond unacceptable]
- Canada can easily support a domestic, professional hockey league in 8 to 20 markets
[with our end goal of adding professional hockey teams in every neglected and ignored market from British Columbia to Newfoundland and Labrador...from coast to coast]
The Canadian League™ would:
- promote Canada's national sport
- promote Canadian heritage at a time when Canadians have never been more patriotic
- provide access to Canada's national sport to marginalized communities and indigenous peoples with no access to professional hockey
- provide cheaper alternatives to NHL games
- provide Canadian alternatives to the NHL, ECHL, AHL, and PWHL leagues
- promote Canadian brands and businesses
- reduce Canadian dependence on the United States for our own national sport
- benefit the Canadian economy
- create jobs for Canadians (especially in markets professional hockey has historically been neglecting)
- provide destinations for tourists visitng these Canadian cities
- provide entertainment for hardworking Canadians and their families – provide Canadians with a team or a league where they can feel conncted, and united with other Canadians
- provide a Canadian institution that lasts for years and supports Canada
We have already done the math, and we can start a domestic hockey league in Canada with between 6 to 8 teams for the inaugural season, generate profit in that inaugural season, and use that profit to expand to other Canadian cities with no access to professional hockey, thus expanding the league to more Canadian markets.
That is our mission.
To give Canadians something patriotic to cheer for again.
Canadian League™ – Long Live Canada.
