Windsor, Ont. — The University of Windsor Lancers Football closed the 2025 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) season with a 5–3 overall record, a campaign defined by competitive performances, statement wins, and the continued emergence of key playmakers across the roster.

Competing in one of the most physical and balanced conferences in Canadian university football, the Lancers proved throughout 2025 that they could go toe-to-toe with anyone in the Ontario University Athletics.

Key Players Step Forward

The 2025 season saw standout performances from both veteran leaders and emerging contributors:

Offensive Leaders — Windsor’s offence was paced by a quarterback group that protected the football and delivered in high-pressure situations, supported by a physical run game that consistently moved the chains. Led by Weagbe Mombo, Liam Talbot, and Andrew Delaney, the RB room in Windsor is one of the best in the country.

Skill Position Playmakers — Receivers and backs provided explosive plays in critical moments, particularly in conference wins where field position and tempo proved decisive. Notably, Colby Ginn, Evan Martin, and Kareeme Cotton had spectacular seasons and are poised to continue dominating moving forward.

Defensive Anchors — The Lancers’ defence was the heartbeat of the team, led by a strong group up front with the likes of Dylan Simpson, Marco Picionni and Darek Anderson in the LB core behind the two USports Sack leaders in Braxton Johnson and Ahmad Taylor. The front seven generated pressure, limited big plays, and forced timely turnovers. The defensive back unit was especially effective in second-down situations, causing chaos. Players like Ethan John and Harrison Daley laid the wood, while others, such as youngster Kevin Rakowska and veteran Istvan Assibo-Dadzi, cleaned up.

Leadership from upper-year players set the tone weekly, while younger athletes gained valuable reps that paid dividends as the season progressed.

A Defined Identity

Windsor’s 2025 identity was clear: physical, disciplined, and relentless. The Lancers leaned into a tough defensive mindset while emphasizing ball control and situational football on offence. That approach kept them competitive in every matchup and earned respect across the conference.

Looking Ahead

While the 5–3 record reflects a relatively balanced season, it only tells part of the story. The 2025 campaign marked another step forward in Windsor’s long-term vision — building depth, developing talent, and establishing a consistent standard.

With key contributors expected to return and a strong recruiting pipeline in place, optimism is high as the Lancers turn the page toward 2026.

In the OUA, progress is measured in inches — and in 2025, the University of Windsor Lancers showed they are firmly moving in the right direction.
