2026 Tournament Rules

TOURNAMENT RULES
U13 ONLY - NO NEW INNING WILL START AFTER 1HR 45 MIN.
NO TIME LIMIT FOR U15, U17 & U19
Official Softball Canada Rules will govern. Mercy rule is in effect for all ages as follows (10) runs Up after (4) innings, (7) runs up after (5) innings.
All Coaches can now pick up a coach’s package from the SMSL executive. We are located under the stands of Bob Impe Stadium on the first base side. The package will include 4 new balls (one for each game), 4 line-up cards and 4 scoresheets. It is also the Coaches’ responsibility to contact SMSL in case of a rain delay (not by phone). Rain delay information will be posted on the SMSL website ASAP! SMSL executives can be found at B.V.I by the announcer booth.
No phone calls or email will be accepted, all updates will be on website as well as potential reschedule.
- The home team is determined by the organizing committee and each team will have 2 home games and 2 away games. The home team is the second team (away @ home). The championship team is the highest-ranking team. The home team is responsible for a scorekeeper.
- Decisions of the Umpires and Host Committee are FINAL.
- No organized infield practice before games.
- All games will start on time as scheduled. Any team more than fifteen minutes late will forfeit the game. If the team is up to six minutes late, they are one run down, up to ten minutes late; the team is up to two runs down. And up to fifteen minutes late, the team is three runs down. The Umpire’s watch will be the official time used.
- Games play in the Round Robin can end in a Tie, no extra innings in round robin play!
- Points awarded as follows in Round Robin Play:
- 2 points for a win
- 1 point for a tie
- 0 points for a loss
- Playoff Games CANNOT end in a tie if a game is tied after 7 innings, extra innings shall be played using the Tie Breaker Rule.
- TIE BREAKING RULE: The batter that last completed a turn at bat in the previous inning shall start the inning as a base runner at 2nd base.
- If after Round Robin Play teams are tied the following shall be used to determine placing.
- Best Record
- Head-to-head 2 teams only if 3 teams are tied head-to-head will not be used.
- Runs Allowed
- Run differential max 8 run pregame!
- Runs Scored
- Any coach ejected from a game must leave the park. Depending on the severity of the infraction will determine if any addition discipline will be required.
U13 – Important Rules
- Time Limit - No new inning will start after 1hr 45min.
- Semi-Finals and Final will have no time limit
- Maximum 5 runs per inning
- Pitching/catching Rules Pitchers/catchers may only pitch/catch (4) innings per game. If a pitcher/catcher pitches or catches 1 pitch to a batter it will constitute 1 inning pitched.
- No Metal cleats allowed
U15 – Important Rules
- No Time Limit
- Maximum 7 runs per inning
- Pitching Rules Pitchers may only pitch (4) innings per game during round robin games. If a pitcher pitches 1 pitch to a batter it will constitute 1 inning pitched.
- No pitching inning limit for playoff games
