Another successful chapter has been added to one of Miramichi's longest running basketball traditions as the Miramichi Summer Hoops Camp wrapped up another outstanding week of basketball from July 6–10 at Max Aitken Academy.
Now in its 33rd year, the camp has been introducing young athletes to the game of basketball since 1993, providing generations of Miramichi players with opportunities to learn new skills, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love of the sport.
This year's camp welcomed more than 100 campers from across the region. The week was divided into two age groups, with Kindergarten to Grade 4 participants taking to the court each morning and Grades 5 to 8 campers following in the afternoon. Throughout the week, players focused on developing fundamental basketball skills through fun drills, competitions, games, and scrimmages in a positive and encouraging environment.
While improving basketball skills remains a key focus of the camp, equal emphasis is placed on teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, and creating an atmosphere where every participant feels welcome and encouraged to improve. Whether campers were attending for the first time or returning for another summer, the week was filled with smiles, friendships, and memorable moments both on and off the court.
The continued success of the Miramichi Summer Hoops Camp would not be possible without the commitment of its outstanding coaching staff and volunteers. Their enthusiasm, energy, and willingness to share their knowledge helped create an enjoyable experience for every participant throughout the week.
River Hoops would also like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the players and families who continue to support the camp year after year. Your enthusiasm and commitment are what keep this tradition thriving and allow the program to continue growing.
As another memorable week comes to a close, the excitement is already building for next summer. After more than three decades of bringing young athletes together through basketball, the Miramichi Summer Hoops Camp continues to be a highlight of the summer sports calendar, and organizers look forward to welcoming everyone back to the court again in 2027.
