Intro Thing

As a quick note before we get started, congratulations on being chosen! You have demonstrated acts and qualities of leadership and fairness that we, the staff, believe will translate into a fun and cohesive environment for our players. The League staff, Discord Moderators, and even some players have dedicated a lot of personal time into this effort and you have have proven to be qualified for this position. Once again, we thank you and the staff appreciate you stepping up to lead your fellow wizards and I hope you continue into the season with pride in the fact that you are capable of doing so. Now let's get started!

The staff is 100% in support of our captains! We want you to take your responsibilities seriously and make sure you accomplish them but not too seriously to the point of exhaustion and burn out. Aside from the mandatory administrative tasks, your team commitment is going to be entirely what you make of it and want to commit! This means that if you want to just draft, report rosters, and herd the cats each week for games, that is 100% acceptable. If you want to spend hours reviewing VODs, coming up with crazy routing and strategies, and practicing callouts; That is fine too.

Please note that whatever route you choose, you cannot forcefully impose your goals on your teammates. This means that you cannot force people to watch VODs, practice multiple times a week, or perform any extra prep work for a match. Suggesting these options and providing advice is perfectly fine but note, if a player just wants to show up once a week for the match and that's it, they are more than welcome to do so. This is not to undermine authority or discourage your level of commitment but rather serves a protection to our players to help prevent burnout and maintain the overall goal of the showdown which is to have a blasty blast!

To better draw this line between things that you need to do and things that you optionally can do… here's a list:

Mandatory Expectations

- HAVE SOME MUTHA TRUCKING FUN

- Reporting player rosters before a match

- Communicating scheduling conflicts

- Drafting players

- Post game codes

- Report rule violations

Optional Expectations

- Hold organized practices or scrims

- VOD reviews and analytics

- Strategy and theory crafting

- Hype Material (jerseys, posters, montages, etc)

- Requesting Trades/Replacements for absent players

- Team Bonding Exercises

Captain Expectations & Responsibilities

Expectations

Lead by Example: Whether you like it or not, you are going to be setting the tone for your team and you are the example they will follow..

All players and Captains are equal but Captains are in a role of leadership and are expected to lead by example.

If your team sees you behaving poorly, they will excuse their own behavior. No one, including staff, is excluded from the rules.

You have the power to set up your team's chemistry and cadence for success. In the event that you feel someone on your team is not representing your team positively (toxicity, violating rules, trying to cheat, etc.) you can inform league staff and we will help to identify and squelch any issues. We can even assist in fostering a replacement, should that be necessary.

The above also ties into the respect that should be shown between you, your co-Captain, and your teammates. As a Captain, people will look up to you and put their trust and faith in YOU! However, you may find that that same blind trust will disappear the moment someone feels disrespected or attacked. Please be sure to conduct yourselves accordingly to avoid tumultuous environments within your teams.

Communication: As Captains, you are the eyes, ears, and advocates for your drafted players and are responsible for addressing and communicating their needs to league staff. This includes, but is not limited to, scheduling constraints, substitutions, rule breaks and exceptions, unsportsmanlike conduct, team hype and praise, ideas, suggestions, etc. You are responsible for getting your team's voice heard and the league staff is always here to listen and take any criticism so that we can ensure a fair and fun playing environment for everyone.

A Fair Perspective: You might draft some of your friends on your team, you might not. You might get along with everyone or you might hit some speed bumps along the way. Regardless of personal feelings or emotions towards another players or teams, Captains are expected to remain objective and fair. Benching players because you don’t like them is completely and utterly unacceptable. The Wizards value equality over favoritism and such actions have consequences. Remember - you are the leaders of a team and as such, you should be focused on fostering an environment that is suitable for every person on your team.

Have Some Got Dang Mutha Effing Fun: As League Commissioner, I am ordering everyone to have fun! Your team will love it, league staff will love it, and I guarantee you that you will love it too. You might even find that you will make long term friends along the way <3

Responsibilities

Game Codes: Casters and Hosts do not receive game codes for spectating, each team is required to submit the game replay codes from the previous match to league staff directly after your team’s matches at the end of the night. Failure to do so will be met with extreme nagging and potential extreme nagging.

Team Line Up: Captains are required to submit a starting line up, as well as available bench substitutions, no later than 48 hours prior to the match via a Google form.

This is for promotional purposes only.

Things happen, schedules change, and substitutions end up needing to be made. Please be courteous to your fellow team members in regards to late roster changes

Substitutions: Captains are required to communicate player substitutions in the event that there is a change in the initially-reported starting 5 before the match.  Mid Match substitutions are expected to be communicated as well

Role Swaps: Role swaps between rounds are allowed. Captains will be responsible for communicating role swaps to league staff between rounds.

Reporting Misconduct: Captains are required to report any discord rule violations, league rule violations, or unsportsmanlike misconduct, regardless of which player, person, or team commits the violation. League staff will try our best to be the all-seeing eye when it comes to this, however, we might miss something and may occasionally need your help to see it.

Team Squabbles: Captains are required to be the first line of defense in squashing team disagreements. Unfortunately, we have limited league staff which will primarily be focused on the production and rules of a match. We need Captains to be in charge of keeping everything cordial during the league as we simply do not have manpower to staff a formal HR-esque department. That being said, we will be doing our best to check in and provide assistance and perspective to any and all teams and Captains, should they need it.

Technical Difficulties/ Pauses: Captains are required to communicate to league staff immediately if a player requires a pause for any reason. There are currently no limits on pauses but a limit will need to be enforced should this ability be abused at any time.

An Extra Note

Please try to refrain from negatively speaking about league management, fellow Captains, or any of the players in the league for any reason. League and Discord staff are always open to complaints, feedback, and suggestions.

Your words carry weight and we would really appreciate it if any issues with league rules, staff, or players were brought to us to try and reach a resolution before you take matters into your own hands.  Staff is here to keep situations from escalating so if there is an issue, please inform us. We are here to help.

Draft Rules And Expectations

All players are given a cost to be drafted. The cost is objective and based on the average probability that a single player may contribute to a win per role. The same weighting system is applied to all players in the league.

Roles are averaged together to assign weight and not only reflect each player’s ability in their primary role but also their ability as a flex player.

Current Season SR is used as the primary SR per role. In the event that current season SR is unavailable, the most recent season will be used for player ratings.

In the event that there is no SR available for any given role, an SR will be estimated based on their SR in other roles, Open Queue SR, and general player stats.

Please note: We are aware this is not a perfect system due to potential human error, however, we believe the benefit of allowing role swaps outweighs the potential errors in SR estimation. This affects 3.81%of player data in the league, which is considered to have a negligible effect.

Player costs are non-biddable, however, adjustments to the weighting process can be made in the event that Captains or staff feel that one team may have an inherent advantage over another. Otherwise, we ask that you trust the system.

Captains are prohibited from communicating player costs to players.

If players make such a request, Captains should send them to league staff so we can provide them with the requested information.

This is important, there's a lot of complex math here that is easy to misconstrue and we want to make sure that everyone is getting the same explanation.

This is also to avoid players negotiating what their costs should be for pride or clout rather than balanced gameplay.

Failure to comply with the above will be met with many annoyed and upset messages from GoldenHashBrown.

All teams will be given the same budget to be used in order to draft players. Teams do NOT have to use their entire budget to draft a team. Each budget is based on the average cost per player multiplied by the number of players per team -0.5 players.

The subtraction of half a player per budget heavily assists in keeping things fair, but can be changed prior to the draft if quality evidence is provided showing that one or more teams will be unable to field a full team of fair quality AND if the majority of Captains and league staff agree on the change.

Captains proposing the budgetary change must abstain from the vote regarding this requested change.

Captains are expected to stay within their budget.

In the event that a team exceeds their maximum allowable budget, efforts MUST be made by said team to either trade or swap drafted players in order to meet their budgetary requirements.

In the event that a team is still over budget in the next round of the draft, they must adhere to the bullet above until budgetary requirements are met.

Swapped players will be re-entered into the draft pool as ‘free agents’ at the start at the next full draft round.

Only players listed in the drafting tools and programs are eligible for draft. Forgery of players will result in a skipped draft round and a 10% budgetary cut.

All player stats will be made available to Captains via the ‘Player Viewer Tool.’

This is a Windows application that will require an internet connection for installation and will take up approximately 1 GB of data.

In the event that a Captain is unable to use the Player Viewer Tooln, it is their responsibility to report the failure to League Staff and accommodations will be made to ensure that all Captains will have access to all necessary information.

Teams will be given 3 minutes to make their decision for a particular pick.

In the event that a team does not submit their pick within the required time limit, the highest available player adhering to budgetary requirements will be auto-drafted onto their team.

In the event that a team does not show for the draft, they will adhere to the auto-drafted rules above.

Draft picks are final unless swaps/trades need to be made due to budgetary constraints or staffing decisions based on fairness.

Multi-Team coordinated strategies are not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to:

Targeted player sniping of opposing teams.

Spying either digitally or conversationally.

Pick order coordination.

Pick griefing.

In the event that teams are convicted of such nefarious acts, they will be forced to surrender ALL of their draft picks and will be unable to partake in the draft. A team will be assigned to them based on the remaining players after all other teams have been fully drafted.

Guilty parties also forgo the right to vote and voice opinions regarding all budgetary and balancing discussions, but will be required to attend these meetings regardless.

In extreme cases, Captain(s) will be removed from their position and will not be eligible to participate in the league. In the event that a team is left without a Captain, league staff will find a new eligible participant. League staff reserves the right to Captain a team (but not participate as a player)  in the event that no suitable replacements can be found.

Single team draft griefing will follow the same consequences as above.

Smurfs are unacceptable in this league. Players found guilty of smurfing will be ineligible to participate in the league.

Alternate accounts are acceptable provided ALL player accounts are communicated before hand

In the event of multiple accounts, staff will use the highest SR from each role across all accounts for weighting purposes

Staff understands that some accounts can obtain skins someone wants to use, has a more appropriate name, or is being used to avoid outside toxic users and are more than happy to try and accommodate provided the player is open and honest about the situation.

In the event that a smurf is found, Captains can replace that player with one of equal or lesser value from the remaining players that have registered for the league.

In the event that there are no eligible players remaining, replacement options will be identified and presented by league staff.

In the event that a Captain willingly chooses to not identify a smurfing player, a redraft will be held.

Guilty parties will assume last draft selection and receive a 10% budgetary cut per failed report of a smurf.

Guilty parties also forgo the right to vote and voice opinions in all budgetary and balancing discussions, but will be required to attend regardless.

Smurfs removed from the league will be ineligible for the season, even if they report their main account.

Players that throw their SR needs to be reported by the captains immediately.

We do not judge and will not exclude this player from the draft. Staff will review season history data to come up with that their SR should be coming into the league

I.e an account that comes into the league with DPS SR of 2500 but previous seasons show 3700 with a career high of 3900 will have their cost weighted on their historical data rather than their current number.

Captains must remain in their individual Discord or Xbox parties for the duration of the draft.

Captains are prohibited from communicating with other teams or Captains during the draft in any channel, except for the shared draft chat.

All Captains found guilty of nefarious acts will be ineligible to be a Captain in the following season.

In extreme cases, league staff reserves the right to ban both Captain and player eligibility for multiple seasons if necessary.

Captains are NOT allowed to disclose drafted players for ANY team prior to the draft stream. Failure to comply with this rule will be met with consequences as detailed below:

- Guilty teams will have their team names and colors assigned to them.

- Guilty teams forgo map picks for the first 3 weeks of the league.

- Leakers will be publicly marked in Discord for the duration of the season and subject to being the butt of many jokes (in an appropriate and non-excessive manner).

- Leakers will be permanently tagged and periodically retagged in the ‘Heathens’ thread and subject to being tagged in GIF posts of patrons throwing food items in protest.

- In cases of extreme leaks, Captains may be asked to leave the league and a suitable replacement will be found by league staff.

- League staff reserves the right to add or remove to this list depending on the situation at hand.

- League staff reserves the right to get infinitely ridiculous (in a fun but also quasi-mean way) with said added consequences.

THE DRAFT STREAM IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST EVENTS OF THE LEAGUE. THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY IS EXCITED FOR THIS. PLEASE DON’T RUIN IT FOR EVERYONE ELSE. I PERSONALLY WILL MAKE IT SUCK FOR YOU AND YOU WILL BE MET WITH MANY DISAPPOINTED SATIRICAL COMMENTS ABOUT BEING A “LEAKER” OF PUBLIC INFORMATION.
