If you identify as neurodivergent, or know that someone on your team identifies this way, you may need to alter your style of play or communication methods to ensure everyone feels included in the game. Listed below are some simple adjustments you can make so that the game is fun for everyone.

Sensory Considerations
Dodgeball games are often loud, with people cheering and clapping, as well as music playing. If you find that a game is too loud, please speak with your captain and ask that they request for music to be turned down/switched off. Opposing teams must comply with these requests.

Alternatively, you can wear earplugs to the game if you feel that this helps.

Communication
Communication between opposing teams is usually fun and friendly, lots of us already know one another so you'll notice some familiarity. However, if you find yourself getting frustrated at opposition players, please remember that in these moments, communication is best between yourself and your captain. Let them know how you are feeling and they will be able to speak with the other team captain if there is an issue that needs to be resolved during the game.

You should also take some time to cool off on the bench if things become overwhelming, or even step outside of the gym for a few moments to take a break.

Inclusion
We aim for Dodgeball Nation to be as inclusive as possible to every registered player. That means that everyone is a valued member of the team, no matter their identity. If you are feeling isolated and unable to communicate effectively with your teammates, please contact the league confidentially at dballnation@gmail.com and we will be happy to help.

Structure
If you feel the need for a set structure in the game, please let you captain know e.g. you may want to sit with the same person when it's your turn to sub.
