BOARD MEMBER:
OVERVIEW


Chicago Comets Youth Lacrosse Club is seeking Parent volunteer Board Members to join its organization.  The Board Member will support the organization’s mission of developing young athletes to become lacrosse players.

DESCRIPTION:

The Board Member will support existing Board members of the Chicago Comets Youth Lacrosse Club in establishing a solid organization to educate young girls about the sport of Lacrosse. Staying up-to-date with the organization’s programs, services, and policies, the board member will help support the club's continued development.
 

Responsibilities and Duties include:

  • Staying up-to-date with the organization’s programs, services, and policies 
  • Following developments in the field that may inform decision-making
  • Attending board and committee meetings as well as special events
  • Reviewing meeting agendas, minutes, and materials related to discussions
  • Serving on committees or task forces and taking on special assignments as needed
  • Participating in reviews of financial statements 
  • Referring to board nominees who could make significant contributions to the work of the board and the organization
  • Informing others about the organization
  • Making decisions and presenting themselves in a virtuous and ethical manner.

Qualifications:

  • 21 years or older
  • USA Lacrosse Member

COACH:
OVERVIEW


Chicago Comets Youth Lacrosse Club is seeking a Lacrosse Coach for its program beginning with the 2023 spring season (late March through the end of May). The coach will instruct and work with athletes to play to the best of their individual and as a team in Girls Lacrosse. The coach has previous experience either playing or coaching and can apply that understanding and teach the rules, techniques, and strategy of Girls Lacrosse.

DESCRIPTION:

Coaches instruct and work with athletes to prepare them for weekly competitions. Practices are held twice a week. Applicants must have a good understanding of the game, sports equipment, physical fitness and safety, good sportsmanship, and the organization's goals.

The coach conducts practices, motivates, and instructs athletes in game strategies and techniques. The coach hosts two weekly practices, generally 1-2 games on the weekend, and reports to the organization’s board. Compensation will be based on experience and does not include benefits.
 

Responsibilities and Duties include:

  • Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises.
  • Assesses player skills and monitors players during competition and practice.
  • Models sportsmanship and nondiscriminatory practices in all activities and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, opponents, officials, and spectators
  • Travels to away games
  • Observe athletes’ skills with practice and determine each athlete's position.
  • As an organized team, train the athletes throughout the entire season practices. 
  • Assign everyone specific positions. 
  • Establish drills and organized game strategies.
  • Arrive at every practice and game and guide the tam team throughout the matchups. If any necessary changes have to be made during the game, they will be in charge of authorizing and implementing them.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Up-to-date CPR certification
  • Three or more years of coaching or playing experience
  • Excellent knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of lacrosse
  • Strong motivational and communication skills
  • Inclusive approach to teaching and educating
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with various constituents (students, coaches, parents).
  • Have prior lacrosse coaching or playing experience.
  • Consent to a background check.
  • Completion of a certified HKCE, NFHS, or other IHSA Board-approved coach’s certification program.
  • Complete concussion awareness training and a Concussion Management Program Examination per IHSA requirements.
  • Certified as a Coach with the USA Lacrosse

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday variable 2 days each week
  • Weekend availability
