What Changed

Zone Boundary Updates

CMBA has updated zone boundaries across Calgary and surrounding communities for the 2026–27 season. The most significant change is the creation of the South Stoney zone — a new independent zone serving families south of Stoney Trail (22X) within Calgary city limits.

No participants will be grandfathered into former zones. All athletes must register in their new zone when changes take effect.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Timeline
When do these changes take effect?
All rezoning changes take effect June 1, 2026 and impact the 2026–27 season.
South Stoney
I live in South Stoney — who do I contact?
Email president@southstoneybasketball.com with any questions not answered here.
Registration
Will anyone be grandfathered into their previous zone?
No. CMBA is not grandfathering participants into their former zone. All athletes must follow the new boundaries once changes take effect.
South Stoney
What will the South Stoney name, colours, and brand be?
These are all TBD and will be chosen early 2026 with input from families living in the South Stoney zone.
Boundaries
I live outside city limits but don't appear in a zone. Where do I go?
Contact the zone closest to you geographically — that is likely your zone and they will confirm for you.
Boundaries
How will I know which zone I'm in?
Use the new boundary map to visually check and search by postal code. Families living south of 22X and inside Calgary city limits will register in South Stoney.
Boundaries
What if I live near a boundary road?
Boundaries use the centreline of major roads and official city limits. CMBA will publish specific guidance for edge cases and, in rare complex situations, will work directly with families to find appropriate solutions.
Travel
Will travel increase for my family?
One of the core goals of this plan is to reduce overall travel. Families in the deep south should experience more local practices and shorter travel times.
League Balance
How does this help parity across the league?
South Stoney removes a large and growing population from Bow River, balancing teams per zone. This creates more equitable tiering, seeding, and playoff structures league-wide.
Fees
Does this change fees or league structure?
No. Registration fees and overall league format are not being changed. Each zone will continue to calculate fees on a yearly basis as they do now.
