  • If you need a substitute, it must be:
    • Level appropriate
    • Opposing team approved PRIOR to match

  • If you cannot make a match and would like to reschedule vs. getting approved subs, please try to make up the match within 2 weeks of the scheduled match date.
  • If not traveling, please use these weeks for "make-up weeks" as well:
    • Memorial Day Week (May 25th – May 29th)
    • July 4th Week - (June 29th – July 3rd)

GAME PLAY RULES

  • No open-hand tips are permitted.
  • You may not handset/push the ball over the net. If the wind blows a hand set over the net, it is a violation.
  • A block does not count as a touch
  • No directional blocking (redirecting the ball with fingertips)
    • You may use two hands to throw a ball straight downwards and can deflect a ball in any direction with a firm hand or "swat", but you cannot throw/swipe/grab with your using your fingertips to change it's direction/angle.
  • A ball cannot be received with open hands, unless the ball is “hard driven”
  • An attack is only considered “hard driven” if the ball is hit on a continuous downward path. If the offensive driven ball arcs at all, or deflects off a block, and you use your open hands to pass it, it is a violation
  • Setting: DOUBLES ARE A THING IN OUTDOOR! If a player uses two hands to play the ball and the contact or release is not simultaneous, it is a violation.
  • The ball may not come to rest in your hands while setting

SERVING / SERVE RECEIVE

  • Let serves (ball contacting the net on the serve) are not permitted
  • You cannot open hand pass a serve (an overhand pass = using fingertips)
  • No "finger action" may be used while in serve receive. The ball must "pop" off the receiving surface, and may not come to rest in any fashion. If using two hands; Hands must be touching or together when receiving the serve
  • A team determined to be out of serving order will lose that serve
  • We do have a courtesy rule for all COED BB (one serve per rotation), there is no courtesy rule in A and higher. – BEER VB admin are not the ones you need to worry about if you’re a dick with this rule…just saying.

PURSUIT

  • A player may not chase the ball into another active court; it is out of bounds.
  • A court is considered active if there is an active match happening on that court- regardless of it a game is currently being played on it.

NET VIOLATIONS / COURT USE

  • At no time may a player touch the net - if you touch the net after the ball is down and it's part of your follow-through; it's a net violation. (Even if the ball has touched the ground)
  • Hair and clothing may touch the net. Hats and shoes are NOT permitted to touch the net.
  • Any equipment issues with the net or court (lines), or ball on the court results in a re-do of the point
  • There are no antennas therefore the poles are considered the boundary line.
  • A player may enter the opponents space, court, or free zone, provided that the player does not contact the net and it does not interfere with the opponent's play.
    • Interference is not limited to physical contact with a player. Any crossing over into an opponent's space in a way that prevents them from making a play on the ball is considered a fault.

QUADS RULES

  • All rules already listed apply to quads as well (no net serves, block is not a touch, no indoor tipping)
  • Servers must rotate in same order throughout a set
  • Quads is genderblind as teams may consist of any combination of men/women.

Minnie / Micky QUADS RULES

  • 2 sets Women's Height Net / 2 sets Men's Height Net for a total of 4 sets to 25
  • Servers must rotate in same order throughout a set
  • Guys can NOT jump serve or attack the ball when net is set at Women’s height (No 10ft line in the grass, there for…no attack. An attack is considered a ball hit above the top of the net and/or hard driven.)
  • Teams must consist of 2 guys and 2 girls, which much remain the balance on the court at all times

As Rich Starr says “no one is winning a gold medal here” so please re-play anything in question, be a good sport, clean up after yourself and HAVE SOME FUN!
