Blazers Volleyball Academy is committed to developing skilled, confident athletes who lead both on and off the court. We focus on technical training, consistency, and a positive culture where athletes feel supported and challenged. We also offer mentorship opportunities through junior coaching roles in our camps. At this time, our program is for athletes born female, though we use inclusive language as we continue to evolve.
We value communication, organization, and respect. We know families are busy, so we work hard to provide clear schedules, prompt updates, and a well-structured program—while still keeping training fun and competitive.
1. When is Club volleyball season?
Club volleyball in Manitoba runs from January to May. Tryouts take place in late November or early December and are scheduled to avoid conflict with school volleyball.
Blazers practices begin in early January, and the season concludes with Nationals in May. Many clubs, including ours, also offer off-season camps for additional training, though these camps are separate from Club season.
2. How do I become a Blazers athlete?
Athletes must attend Club tryouts during the designated tryout period (typically the first weekend of December).
The only exception is the early-signing window for 17U and 18U athletes in September. Early signing follows strict Volleyball Manitoba regulations. If you do not receive a pre-sign offer, you may only receive and accept a formal offer on or after the first day of tryouts.
There is no early signing for athletes 16U or younger. If a Club offers a pre-sign to anyone under 17U, it is against Volleyball Manitoba rules.
17U and 18U athletes can review the Official Early-Signed List to see available spots and positions across Clubs.
Volleyball Manitoba publishes official tryout dates each year. Athletes may attend as many Club tryouts as they wish.
3. I want to try out for Blazers. What should I do?
Register for the Blazers tryout for your age group. We look forward to seeing you in the gym.
4. What do Blazers coaches look for at tryouts?
Our coaches assess overall potential using SPARC:
S – Skills
P – Passion
A – Attitude
R – Reliability
C – Coachability
Tryouts also give athletes the chance to experience our coaching style, energy, and training environment. Finding the right fit matters to both athletes and the program.
More information on tryout regulations is available on the Volleyball Manitoba website.
5. What is the time commitment?
Blazers athletes can expect:
• Three two-hour practices per week
• Strength training
• Tournaments on approximately five weekends throughout the season

• Nationals (three to four days; 14U - 17U when possible)
7. Can I play other sports during Club season?
We support multi-sport development; however, Blazers Club teams are competitive and require full commitment.
If you participate in another sport, please speak with the head coach before accepting an offer. Athletes are expected to attend practices, team events, and scheduled competitions.
8. Do all athletes get equal playing time?
13U and 14U follow Volleyball Manitoba’s Fair Play rules:
• Any athlete not starting the first set must start the second.
• They cannot be substituted unless ill or injured.
• The third set is at the coach’s discretion.
For 15U to 18U, playing time is not guaranteed. It is based on skill, reliability (attendance), attitude, and coachability.
