Sporting Conduct

Healthy competition is encouraged, but we also want all participants to feel supported and valued. Below is a list of our ideas on how to encourage good sporting conduct across the league, both on and off the field.

Lead with Kindness: Approach every game with a positive and encouraging attitude. Remember, we're all here to have a good time and support one another.
Read the Room: Injecting humor and playfulness into the games is ok, but always gauge the atmosphere and maintain a respectful tone.
Give Players the Benefit of the Doubt: Recognize that not everyone is a kickball pro. Help your fellow players understand the game and its rules, and always assume good intentions.
Call Out Bad Behavior: Address any negative behavior directly, either by expressing your feelings to the person involved or by communicating with your team captain. Constructive dialogue and in the moment contact with team captains is encouraged.
Thank the Game Officiants: Show appreciation for the officials, including line refs and umpires. We are a non-profit and 100% volunteer run. Don't hesitate to ask questions after the game, and trust that your captains are there to handle any in-game issues.
When in Doubt, Be Respectful: A golden rule that never goes out of style. Treat others how you'd like to be treated, both on and off the field.
Consider the Context: Be understanding of teams that may be having an off day. Approach bad or rule-breaking behavior with empathy and integrity.

Make Fun of Anyone: Unless it's all in good fun and everyone is on board. Always be mindful of the dynamics and ensure that humor is inclusive.
Be Rude or Talk Back to Officiants: Respect for umpires and line refs is paramount. If you have concerns, address them through the appropriate channels.

Working with Captains: We'll collaborate with team captains to ensure that players understand the expectations for behavior both on and off the field.
League Registration Question: We are adding a question to the registration form: "What does good sporting conduct look like to you?" We take this seriously, and we expect you to do the same.
Empowering Umpires: Umpires will be more empowered and encouraged to issue yellow or red cards for bad behavior. Physical cards will be provided to umpires for this purpose.
Handling Complaints: Any reported or written complaints will be followed up with discussions involving the teams, team captains, and/or players involved. Appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken if warranted.
