RULES OF THE GAME

The rules of the game are as played during the regular season.  No abuse of referees will be tolerated. Disputes should be brought forward to the Tournament Committee, NOT with the referee.

No guest players are permitted. Any players not registered on the team for the regular season with their respective association cannot participate in the tournament.

Any player or team official who is ejected from a game in the tournament for misconduct, foul play, or language/abuse of an official will be automatically suspended for the following one (1) game. Suspended players may neither dress nor sit at the bench nor play in the affected game. Suspended team officials may not be in the vicinity of the player benches.  All matters of discipline will be reviewed by the Tournament Committee.

ROUND ROBIN AND PLAYOFF GAME FORMAT

All games will have two 25-minute halves and a 5-minute half time intermission.  Round Robin games tied at full time will end in a tie.  Playoff games ending in a tie will immediately go to a 5-round penalty shootout.  Medal games ending in a tie will have two (2) additional 5-minute halves under the golden goal rule - if an extra time goal is scored the game is won by the goal scoring team and the balance of the extra time is not played. If still tied after the extra time is concluded, then a 5-round shootout will be played.

Medals will be awarded to the players at the field of play by the Tournament Committee after the finish of each medal game on Sunday. The 8U jamboree will not include playoffs and all players will receive a medal that will be given to the coaches to distribute.

GROUP WINNERS, TIE-BREAKERS, FORFEIT RULINGS

Each team shall be awarded three (3) points for a win, one (1) point for a tie and no (0) points for a loss. Any forfeited game or Round Robin “Bye” shall be scored as a 3-0 win for the non-defaulting team. In any given game the maximum goal differential used in calculating the standings shall be 5 goals. At the end of the round robin the group winner shall be the team with the most points. If teams are tied on points, the following criteria shall determine the winner or other eligibility:

a) Winner of game between the two teams (if more than 2 teams are tied, this criterion is not used)

b) Team having the most wins

c) Goal difference (goals scored minus goals allowed)

d) Goal difference between the two teams head-to-head (if more than 2 teams are tied, this criterion is not used)

e) Most goals scored

f) Least goals allowed

g) Team having the most shutouts

h) Team having received the least cards (red and yellow)

i) Team with the higher standing in the regular season, if available

j) Coin Toss

REPORTING OF SCORES

The head coach of the winning team must retrieve the game sheet from the game referee and hand in to the Tournament Committee at the ref tent on Field #3 within 20 minutes of the game’s conclusion.  Prompt submission of scores is necessary to have the standings and playoff brackets updated.  If possible TeamLinkt will be updated with the playoff games but do not count on this.  The ref tent should be the hub to see the standings and playoff brackets.  It is the responsibility of team management to communicate with players and parents to ensure your team arrives at the right field at the right time.

EXTRAORDINARY WEATHER

In the event of severe weather (e.g., continuous heavy rain, lightning, excessive heat), the Tournament Committee has the authority to change the duration of games or any other function of the tournament, including such things as the following:

  • Relocate and/or reschedule any games.
  • Reduce, by up to 50 per cent, the scheduled duration of any game (including playoffs).
  • Cancel any game in the preliminary round that has no bearing in deciding group winners.

A game is considered complete when 50 per cent or less of the playing time remained when the game was terminated by the referee.

CONDUCT

No vaping, smoking, or alcohol consumption on the soccer fields and please remind all coaches, parents, and players that foul language is unacceptable.

NO ABUSE OF REFEREES from parents, coaches, players, or spectators is tolerated. Offenders will be banned from the fields for the duration of the tournament.  In addition, any conduct that is considered abusive, offensive, confrontational, or threatening towards any coach, player, referee, or Tournament Official can result in a permanent ban of the offender at the discretion of the Tournament Committee.
